Savage engine mount
After running eight tanks through my new savage i decided to do a little light off roading. The truck is a blast. Unfortunately my truck caught air on a dirt pile and went end over end. No big deal the first time. This time though, I heard a loud pop and the engine died. Upon closer inspection I monitced the engine head pushed back into the body. I thought $&%^*#$@(@$%& I busted the engine. It turns out it was actually just the engine mount. Anyway, lesson learned. Should've waited till I got more expeirience till I got carried away. Any good recomendations on a replacement engine mount.

RE: Savage engine mount
You think a roll cage would be good also? The fact that the engine got pushed back is kinda scary.
What if the new mount and engine don't give, will the engines head?

RE: Savage engine mount
well for the head to give i would think ued have to go off a 5 foot jump and land upside down right on a rock. rollcages help alot, but i would get a better engine before i get a rollcage because of the added weight. how did you land the truck when you messed up the engine mount? upside down?

RE: Savage engine mount
When the mount broke the engine was pushed back on top. Since the truck flipped end over end going forward, I'm not sure exactly how it broke.
I would think the roll bar would have caught first. Heres a couple of pics.

RE: Savage engine mount
I would send an e-mail to HPI and see what they say..........even if the truck does a roll the engine mount should be ok.
If you have some very bad marks on the engine head then i would say not to but its worth a shot.
Good Luck

RE: Savage engine mount
Found a LHS with a mount. Its a hot bodies aftermarket, so it isn't cast alluminum. Anyway, started disassembly to replace it. Check out what it looks like behind the gas tank.[X(]

It doesn't look like it. If it is, it is ever so slightly and you would probably be able to tell better than me. Maybe i'll gett new chassis plates to go with the roll cage. I'm about to get a pretty tax refund check anyway. Any other ideas on mods. I'm thinking of beefing the drivetrain.

RE: Savage engine mount
i would stick with the cast mount, its better that you break the mount rather than the engine itself, this is what happened to my s25 a few weeks after i got my savage

RE: Savage engine mount
After getting everything fixed up last night I went out and ran it this morning. It ran good. After the first tank I couldn't get it started again though.
I noticed the housing for my Rotostart was loose and there was a faint white smoke coming from around the back so out comes the engine again. Thats when I noticed something I should have seen earlier(see pics.) You have to admit, when I screw up I do it good. This all started from a somesault that should have caught the roll bar. I still can't think of how the engine got hit. Now it won't tune correctly, the roto start is loose, I have changed the motormount(I'm actually thinking of going back to cast because of all this,) and I am only on tank 9. I'm starting to get kinda frustrated. I don't think I've done anything wrong. I REALLY like the truck but the engine is giving me all kinds of grief. I'm going to email HPI tommorow but I don't see much coming out of it. There are a couple smill nicks on the head, but I'll try. In case I decide to go the new engine route, I keed reading about the SH28 engines. I obviously need something that is good for a novice. I'll do a search in the forums but since the flange on the back of my engine is busted I need to start thinking now. Here are some more pics.

RE: Savage engine mount
buy yourself an SH.28 from the states, they dont cost much as the exchange rate is really good ATM and belive me the SH.28 is simply awesome compared to the crappy s25, easy to run in, easy to start, easy to tune, just an all round better engine

RE: Savage engine mount
oh and by the way it sounds like you have an air leak on the s25, you would be best to replace the back plate(the bit thats scuffed, it just un bolts) and seal it with silicone when you refit it, also worth sealing up the carb neck and carb pinch bolt just to make sure

RE: Savage engine mount
I'd stay with the stock engine mounts because the next crash (with all the super strong aftermakret parts) is gonna bust the engine. I'd like to see you try to get HPI to pay for what is basically stupidity on your part. I love my Savage and I'm hard on it, but you've gotta know that there are limits as to what you can do with them. From the amount of damage I've seen done by your initial wreck you must have been going pretty fast upon impact.

RE: Savage engine mount
Yeah, i was going too fast at around half throttle. Unfortunatly, as you said, in my stupidity i forgot to stop in mid air. If I would have done that the engine mount would not have broken. Really though, why don't we try to remain constructive instead of derogatory.

RE: Savage engine mount
I just found a post in the HPI forums about the backplates coming loose. Seems alot were shipped with the torque setting on the plate wrong. This was causing the screws to vibrate loose. Head over and check it out.
