Default got some questions

ok, so i have decided to get a electric car insted of nitro. i am kinda confused on what car to choose and batterys and remotes and all that stuff. i was looking at this http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=58333 and this http://cgi.ebay.com/Yokomo-1-10-Drif...ayphotohosting
i dont really know alot about electric cars. i will be using it mainly for drifting and some other stuff. i wanted to spend around 300 bucks with everything i need. could you guys recomend some cars and batterys, remotes ect... i was also wondering how hard they are to put to togthere i am good at building stuff but i never built one of those before, i have build a xmods and i built my computer. also if you have anyother information that would help me that would be nice.
thanks

Default RE: got some questions

I reccomend the TA05 for you. The 05 is much better kit than the TT-01 since it has many more updated parts. For batteries I'd get these: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCUH3&P=ML
then get a peak charger and a cheap radio and you'll have maybe $50 leftover which isn't really much for an ESC and motor so I reccomend streching the budget to maybe $100-125. Then you could get this ESC: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLHE2&P=ML
and a 12T motor such as: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJGW8&P=7
or if you could strecth a tad more you could get: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGDP6&P=7
or the 5800SS remanufactored from Novak for the same price as the 4300. With BL you'll never need to worry about replacing brushes or cutting the comm. This will also provide you tons of power for drifting and racing around. For drift tires you can get the actual ones or you can put some electrical tape on the tires or mount some PVC or ABS piping on the rims.

ok there is no point in buying the TT-01 since it comes with an ESC and motor if you're just going to replace it. I suggest you just get the ta05 and add drift tires if that's what you want. This ESC is a good one for the money and you really won't need to get another like ever but there are cheaper ones too. As for the charger the MRC 959 is $5 cheaper but mined burnt itself up so I'm not to happy with it. Also if you buy the TA05 it comes with a silver can motor. This motor is basically low speed junk. Even with a nice ESC speed will lack horribly. I suggest you get a new ESC and new motor. If you could tell me the budget you have, if you want more acceleration and runtimes or more high speed that'd also be great.

ok well you can get the TT-01 drift and a nice cheap radio such as this one: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXCFW2**&P=7
and there you'll have an RTR for only $190 plus charger and batts. If you could spend a little extra get a radio like this one: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXCHA8**&P=7

Default RE: got some questions

you'll also want to get CA glue to glue the tires: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK282
and if you type in polycarbonate in the search on tower you'll get lots of different paints for the body. Just pick the color. I reccomend tamiya paints cause I used em and they seem to work very well. Unless you have an airbrush machine get the paint in the spray can. Don't try to cheap out and just use spray paint cause it doesn't work (trust me I know from experience! lol). As for lights sure you can! I have some lights on my M3 body. Just go to radio shack and buy some LED's and resistors or buy a kit like this one: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTB97&P=7

yup that's about all you'll need! As for the threadlock put it in high vibration spots or just in metal to metal screws. I didn't use any on my TA05 and it works fine but for nitros it's neccesecary but just get it it's a good idea. My TA05 did not come with window masks but rather just external stickers but just put the stickers on the inside and voila! a paintmask! lol The rims should come gold. Build time really depends. It took me a while but I took my time and enjoyed it (it was fun!). if you're fast maybe 3-5 hours or maybe over 10.

I used to live in watertown but then I moved like 5 years ago. I don't know about meets as I don't race... You might be able to make the lights turn on and off via remote but it could be very complicated. I don't know as my light setup just runs off a 9V and is seperate from the R/C circuits. The advantage of the MX-3 is that it is FM (longer range) and also has a third channel so if you say buy an emaxx or a savage you can use the remote with those trucks since they both need or benefit from a 3 channel radio (emaxx needs it, savage can have reverse with it). I dunno I've always bought cheap radios but if you're just getting into it with a kit you might as well get a nice radio you can use for all your future cars as well.

yeah that's a good idea! I hadn't really though much about this so I didn't suggest the TC4. You might also want to look at the Sprint 2 from HPI. For drift tires check out yokohoma or just do what I did with electrical tape around the tire (haven't tried it yet but I think it'll work well at least so I've heard in the drift forum)
