I’ve had a Sportsman Aviation FW-190 sitting in the loft for a few years now so I may as well build it.
Figure putting a few pics up on here may force me to do a decent job of it lol.
All reports I’ve read suggest this model flies pretty well. It’s not much to look at out of the box but the shape is pretty
decent and I think it has potential.
I’ve stripped away all the film covering as there are a few things i wish to add to this model.
Going to add:
* Split flaps
*Retracts (Possibly retracting tail wheel also)
* Sheet the wings and tail surfaces
* A bit of cockpit detail
* The bulges in front of the cockpit which conceal the cannons
* A bit of surface detail and possibly panel lines
* Cannons on the wings
This is only a small model (54") so i need to watch the weight.
I’m not a great builder so this is definitely going to stay SEMI-SCALE. I’ve seen some of the kit bashes on this site and I’m definitely not in
that league.

Sheeted the vertical stab and have began sanding to profile. Will cut out the counterbalance in the fin aslo.
Looks alot better than the flat thin original tail. Next i need to sheet the horizontal surfaces.
Have cut away the cockpit floor. Will be adding detail later on. Am going to work on the fuse first then move on
to the wings.

Ive re-shaped and sheeted the horizontal tail surfaces.
Given it all a sanding and its looking ok. Will sand further before covering.
Still need to re-shape the vertical stab to allow for the counter balance on the rudder.
Would like to blend the vertical stab into the fuselage a bit also as per full size.

Cheers bayareajeff.
Not exactly scale but good enough i think.
Looking at engine selection at the minute. Have three spare engines.
RCV58, RCV90 or Saito 82GK. Not sure which to go with.

Done a little more to the fw-190.
Have cut out the split flaps and sheeted the underside of the wing.
Have cut out hatches for the servos. Was going to go for a single servo for the flaps but i cant really be doing with installing the torque rods so im going to use two
and just suffer the weight penalty.
Have decided to use a Saito 82gk. Will definately not be underpowered. This model is designed for a .46 2stroke, although my model will be a little heavier than the stock set up.

Have put this project on the back burner for a while.
Have been preparing my YT FW-190 for a summer of flying.
Once the 190 is up and flying im going to give my Spitfire a Scale overhaul.
Hope to get back building the "little Fokker" say September time.![Wink](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

very nice big 190 and spit! i was wondering how do the retracts look on the sportsman ? , most arf fw190 have the u/c struts to short
are they any better on this ?also this one seems to have a better shaped cowl than say the h&m or the vq and this little arf is pretty
cheap in australia! hehe i was thinking of electric conversion. thanks spud

Hi Spud
Well the wheel wells have not been cut, so you could pretty much make the gear any length you like.
Just means that you will have to cut and line the wells yourself which is what i plan to do. The model comes with
a set of mechanical retracts which seem pretty strong. I will be using a set of spring airs with oleos.
The cowl isnt to bad. About the same as the h&m one i think. They are very similar models. The VQ looks pretty bad lol [:'(]
You could electrify this model i recon. Its pretty light in stock form, and the outline looks pretty scale.
Ive heard many glowing reports about the flying also which is encouraging.
This guy has converted his one to electric and given it a lick of paint. Cant remember where i got the pics from. Probably from
either RCU or RC Groups.
