Default PC-21 from WIND RC questions

Took delivery today. Will be using a jetcat SPT10. Looking for recommendation for aftermarket exhausts stacks that will fit the SPT10 and extend far enough out to avoid heat damage to fuselage.

Any other constructive suggestions on setting up this model will be appreciated.

Thanks

Fred, that link led me to Facebook page that said manual not available.

I would be appreciative if Bert Garrison and Dennis Shrewsberry who are successfully flying this beautiful model would contact me

Roy - for what you paid, what's your thoughts on the overall quality of the WindRC PC-21?

I have one of the earlier version. General impression, plane was put together pretty well. Unfortunately, some of the electronics that came with my model were of poor quality in my opinion. An example, nav lights failed as soon as power was switched on. Also, brake controller smoked during initial testing of system. I had my model for 1+years, but it has not been flown yet. Few other projects ahead of it, but hope to get flown in 2024.

I would agree on my limited look over of the kit the quality is pretty good. Impressively large and having watched these being flown in person appear to have very good flying qualities. Extensive prefabrication done including wiring and retracts already installed.

David sent you a PM

Looking for more help.
the manual has no recommended throws for control surfaces. Can someone share their recommendations please?

also, the kit comes with templates for cutting the exhaust holes for a kingtech turboprop. I’m mounting a jetcat SPT10 and wondering what modifications maybe needed to fit the jetcat SPT10 properly with it’s exhaust holes

thanks

Started assembly and will share some information while I wait for someone to hopefully share control throw recommendations, the latter of which are not in the manual

Aileron servo installation- a 20 cm servo arm appears adequate and will provide 25mm of movement up and 25 mm down of movement. The pushrod should be at least 6 cm long.

VERY IMPORTANT. While assembling with the ball links that came with the kit, one of the balls fell out. I will be using washers on the outside bolt to prevent failure in flight.

Rudder servo installation- the depth of the servo bay is shallow. With my installation a 15mm servo arm is too long and at 90 degrees will be hitting servo bay floor. A 12-13mm servo arm will fit and one needs at least a 4cm pushrod. My servo floated above the wood servo mount. A piece of 1/32 plywood was glued underneath the servo and was perfect to prevent any rocking(see picture). I will also be adding a wood plate to the servo access door, again making a flush fit so servo cannot rock.

Needless to say I removed the wood screws holding the servo L brackets and used cyano to harden the wood and screw holes

Aftermarket pipes made by Grumania jets to fit jetcat SPT10 mounted in PC-21. These are an absolute work of art!

Exhaust holes in fuse side. Exhaust pipes are 5.5 cm diameter on the jetcat. Wrapping adhesive backed sandpaper around a 2 1/2 inch hole cutter worked great to shape the openings.

Max out all throws as much as you can. Try to use linkages from outside if you prefer to fly it like a sport plane. For general scale flying - inside linkages will do. If you are close to GA - bring it to my property in Spring 2024 - I plan to have an event where we will have 6 of them flying together.
Good luck. An easy build.

Thanks Guldukat, the build is going well. I have gear and gear doors working. Only flap servos left for installation. I had heard best to keep installations as far forward as possible. The front tray behind turbine compartment seems a little flimsy. I will beef it up so it won’t vibrate, especially if I mount the gyro there.

do you have any pictures of your installation you could share. Thanks
Roy

Roy,

I used the stock stuff and trays and it worked flawlessly. I made mine tail heavy as I prefer sport and high aerobatics. It's very forgiving so it will not matter.

I'll try to get pics next time I fly it.

Just curious, did use the stock nav lights?
