Synthetic Rubber Cement?
As I build my Tiger 1, the Tamiya instructions say to use Synthetic Rubber Cement.
What is this? Is that Shoe Goo? Can someone tell me a brand name product found here in the US? TIA! |
RE: Synthetic Rubber Cement?
Try the Shoe Goo that stuff works wonders on most stuff i ever used it on.

Hmmm , try poly styrene cement as an option . It melts the plastic together. Haven't built a tamiya tank so not 100% sure. Works on heng long.!!

RE: Synthetic Rubber Cement?
The tamiya instructions specifies like 3 different cements. Standard polystyrene type, then a cryo type then the "SRC"... So, I'm thinking its different than one drop or the standard "testors" glue....

RE: Synthetic Rubber Cement?
Hi AlphaAuriga...you're right it is different. Synthetic rubber glue is used to glue disimilar materials together i.e. metal to plastic.
On my Sherman I used it wherever Tamiya suggest and it worked fine i.e. Bogie assemblies, Oil reservoirs etc. Here in England I bought the SRC in B&Q, it's a huge DIY store. It was in the adhesives section where you would find Loctite products, packaged in a tube and is clear in colour. Hope this helps. Nick. |
RE: Synthetic Rubber Cement?
I use Elmer's rubber cement. You'll find it an an office supply store or in the office supply section of a store. Not at a hobby shop. The reason its used is that it allows for a removal of the part you're installing.

You can also use the thread locker supplied with the kit. it works well as a cement on parts that need to be able to be taken apart at a future point.

In the case of the Tamiya Tiger it's used to mate the braided feifel intake hoses to their plastic fittings.
I used rubberized contact cement. |

I also use Elmer's rubber cement. They also sell it in Home Depot and Lowe's.
