Default Yellow Zero Flap Retrofit

I will be installing flaps on a Yellow Zero that was already built and the flaps were omitted. Don't know why, but these will help in landing this already heavy fighter. I have outlined the flap area using Yellows guideline. I plan on using the flap skin that I removed thus eliminating any repainting.

OK, already have a change in plans. After cutting out the perimeter of the flap outline. There was no way of removing the skin from the foam in one piece. I forgot how tightly the skin was glued to the foam. Had to remove everything by gouging out the foam and sheeting. Will be building new flaps with ply and ribs. I do have the flap pockets cleaned out.

Hi Fred,

The flaps on my YA zero were balsa sheet with the correct airfoil shape. I think ply with ribs is actually more scale anyway. Go for it.

Hi Carl,
I have to do the built up flaps since I don't have any airfoil balsa sheet. I think they will look better. I made the leading edge sheet for the flaps. I glued on the hinge blocks and made pockets in the wing to fit everything in. Side formers are glued in also. Ready to make the flaps.

Thanks Tony, I've had a lot of practice working on your airplanes. LOL. This is not my plane, I'm doing the work for another friend Dan Carlson from Indiana.
Later,
Fred

OK, Made the flap blanks out of 1/16 ply. Layed out the rib location. Glued on the leading edge and ribs.
Starting to look like flaps!!

Finishing up this project. Servos are mounted and linkages are made. Made a plywood horn and the clevis hole has a piece of nyrod glued in for a bearing surface. Flaps are dry hinged for fit. Glassing and finishing next,
