Military Piper Cub Color Schemes!!!????
Hi All,
I just aquired a 1/4 scale Balsa USA Piper Cub. I am a warbird guy as many of you know. I would like to make this a military version that is different than the Navy's yellow cub or the army's O.D. green cub. I think I have seen one that was silver with yellow wings, but cannot be sure. Anyone out there know where I can find some pics of something different????
Thanks,
PJ

RE: Military Piper Cub Color Schemes!!!????
I know the feeling. Every L4 you see is olive with invasion stripes. Funny thing is that they only used invasion stripes for a few months before they were directed to remove them. I am building an L4 and have tried to find similar documentation. Bob Banka wasn't much help - most of his pictures are OD green. I purchased a couple of books about liason planes which were very informative and interesting, but they focused more on the mission than the plane itself. Several of the air force squadrons used L4s as their "hacks" and were sometimes painted in the same schemes as their combat aircraft. There was a b/w picture of an L4 that was painted silver all over with a checkerboard cowl. Unfortunately nothing good enough to use for scale documentation. But maybe that will give you an idea where to look. Good Luck.

I know it is OD but have a look at "Rosie the Rocketeer" - the bazookas on the wing would sure make it different - could have some fun getting them working too.
Do an internet search on Rosie the Rocketeer - here is one photo I found.
Best Regards
Jason

not all cubs where L-4's before, some where O-59's which are forward fire directors for the field artillery and quite the story those with the bazooka's used in the hedgerows just after D-day.
then the cubs used by navy/marines where NE-1, 2's done in the navy blue two tone schemes.
cubs used for training and laiason in CONUS where silver dope and other colors trim.
the piper cub book available from the EAA has good coverage of these exploits.
keep searching till you see something you like.
I did up my 100" H9 cub as an O-59 with rocket tubes also put on the Robart bungee gear.
