Hello all, I was in the process of ordering servo arms for the airframe and came across the first item in the manual I want to clarify. On page 14 the manual indicates a distance of 55mm center to center. This distance is measured between the center of the stabilator shaft to the center of the bearing shaft that fits inside the stabilator.

The servo arm length needed for the stabilator is 20 mm. This allows the bearing shaft to line up at 55m from the stabilator shaft.

All the other servo arm lengths are correct.

Flaperons 30mm
Rudder 15mm
Stabilators 20mm
Slats 10mm

More to come.

Hi Craig, just started building my F-16 and would like some info on how you did the servo arms I am using the Jr aluminum arms as recommended and the centers ar a bit off their numbers. also would like to know if you modified the arm for the 10mm and the 15 mm centers

Thanks in advance

I just started mine also and started with the rudder. My servo arm post is 15mm (created a new hole on servo arm) from center of gear and installed servo (gear forward). Then installed vertical fin and the slot on the rudder is about 5mm to far forward. If I turn the servo around, it is dead on but I don't think that is the way to go. I may have to drill another hole 10mm out on servo arm. But this creates a problem because the nut for the post will not fit on back of the servo arm as the hole is to close to center. I am using the servo arms from Skymaster (blue one) for futaba.
Moved on to the Slats. Again, if I went out 10mm on servo arm, the nut will not fit on back of servo arm using the recommended servo arms. So I drilled another hole out from center about 13mm.

Will start elevators soon and still waiting for my servos for the flaps.

If others have started build, are you using 10mm measurement for servo arm on rudder?

you need to use a thicker arm on the slats to be able to use the nut on the back side, the sliver JR arms work for the elevator and ailerons

So the rudder servo is installed with shaft facing aft (servo label facing forward)? That is different then the instructions and what I have seen on Anton F-16 at FJ.

Hi Shoyt1, did you use the gold jr arms on the slats also?

Shoyt1,
Do you have a clearer picture of the second picture showing the bottom of rudder? Is that a metal guide on the bottom of rudder just like the elevators have? If so, I don't think I received one in my parts bag...will have to look again when I get home.
Also, does your F-16 already have the 5mm bolt installed in the bracket for the aft rudder guide pin? I have the bolt installed in the forward one (although I can't seem to find a hex driver to fit the screw). The aft bolt could be hard to install if I have to come up from the bottom.
Thanks for the help,
TJ

The metal guide is already installed in the rudder surface the only ones that you have to put in are the elevators. The rudder only has one pinch bolt and that is located in the aft post. The access for the bolt is on the lower righthand side of the fixed portion of the rudder

Ok, metal guide is installed...it was just painted over and didn't realize it was metal.
I will take another look at the pinch bolts....pretty sure the forward has one too. On the aft pinch bolt, it that bolt already installed on yours?

Slat servos installed, what a pain that was trying to put the bearing in the arm ended up ising the jr aluminum arm. the servo screw needs to be flush with the arm or it will bind with the slat arm.
The instuctions call for L brackets on the aileron servos, I can't see why and my kit only had two sets of L brackets which I used on the slats .

I think the instructions were for the early version of the F-16 having to use L brackets for flap servos. Also, it tells you to cut slots in elevator but as we know, that is now done at factory.
I have all control surface servos installed expect for flaps (waiting on servos). I did have to shim up (two thin washers) the front elevator servos to clear the servo arm from side of fuselage. I am still curious on why they decided to change orientation of the rudder servo. The instructions and Anton's 1/5 F-16 have the servo mounted forward. Doesn't this change the geometry as the arm is now pulling away from hinge line? Hopefully Tony or Anton can chime in on this thread.

Better quality compared to what? I don't know what pictures you are referring too but I think the quality is pretty good. The glue joints are great, the paint job is superb and the hardware is good. The detail with panel lines and rivets really bring it out. If you need pictures of certain parts to help you make a decision on whether you want to purchase, please let me know and I will send to you.
