Default Servo choice for edge 540 20cc turnigy or hitec

Hey guys, I'm looking for opinions on servos to go into my edge 540 20cc plane.

first is the hitec 5645mg servos from tower hobbies
after tax/ discounts from tower. They can be had for around 31$ each
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LM0358&P=ML

next is the turnigy 620dmg
they can be had for 20$ each
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=42530

both servos have great reviews. And they are both overkill, but I want to buy a set of servos I can grow with. Of course the hitec brand name Carries a lot of weight.

the turnigy servos are cheaper and have better specs.
the hitec servos come with aluminum arms and have a proven name

i don't think I could go wrong with either one. But I would like some opinions. Thanks!

I've heard savox makes great servos, however that servo there has considerably less torque. Wouldn't be to good for moving up to a 30cc or 50cc 3D plane

Since I normally fly such an aircraft with 40 oz/in servos I believe that servo has plenty of torque. The hite 645 is just too slow for me

I gotcha, yeah I was originally looking at the 645's. But being I want to 3D the plane I figured I'd have to go digital. So I had my heart set on the hitec 5645s. But now coming across these turnigy servos that are faster and have almost 200oz torque and are cheaper. I really don't know what to do.

You need to consider the accuracy of the torque claims. Years ago I tested a number of servos. The hitec servos woild produce only about 2/3 of the torque claimed.
I suspect the Turnigy servo is similarly inflated their torque figures.
Holding power is the friction of the gears. It subtracts from the torque generated,it does not add to it.

Thanks for the info, I figured some values are inflated. I would assume a reputable company like hitec would be closer to their numbers than some of the not as popular ones

Gsxr, were you set up for 3D flying? Or more iMac flying? I looked at those servos also. If I got with hitec it will be the 5645's. Digital version of what you have.

3D, mainly the slower 3D stuff. So speed was my priority over torque, I didn't need torque over 100 and with me running life pack to the reciever, I'm sure my speed with life pack is under .12-.11 seconds or faster.

I assume when these hitec servos are rated for 6.0v that's it's ok to run a life pack for long term use?

That, I don't know. I just know, I have flown them for a season and half, with have using 2000 mah 5 cell nimh reciever pack, then switching to life reciever pack last year. I don't think 6.6 life vs 6.0 nimh will impact life span.

Yes it is totally fine, you can use any of our 6.0v rated servos on a 2S 6.6V LiFe battery.
