It's almost the same as modding a side exhaust engine with consideration that the top-end is 90 degrees off.
This article might be of help to you, http://www.modelgasboats.com/rcmk-ss...-modification/

I have a stock K30 rear exhaust also...trying to get the best out of it. No mods yet, however it seems to have enough grunt to get to a competitive level. I think with the right prop it can be cometitive in heat racing.

What type hull are you using?

I had 2 of the R-254's, still have one yet that's never been fired up. The first one was in a JAE gas 'rigger. The other I'd like to find a good hull for it or sell it, I'm not sure yet.

Gizmomotors.com make a top end kit for the K30RZ rear exhaust. Do the upgrade and that K30 will be putting out 7.5hp

I'm thinking that if I hang onto mine it would be a good candidate for a Gas Sport hydro hull, I don't have one of those yet.

Before purchasing 1 of these K30 RZ topkits modded by gizmo make sure they havnt removed the extra sleeve,i know they do on the SE version
the older RZ sufffered piston problems
I run the the K30 rz topkit with only a couple of mods but left the sleeve alone and piston still looks good and plenty of power
