Ahhh... well, not offended, and now much less confused. Still , however. Glad to know I'm one of the crew now.

Just to be clear for any who might stumble across this conversation; I was NOTendorsing ANYproducts. I was merely "Cutting and pasting" a small chunk out of someone else's list to show where I was in said list; it is a MASSIVElist comprised of some 6 posts on RCG. JUSTTHELIST. The associated THREAD is like 1200 PAGES OFPOSTS long.

This was the salient part of that chunk of text:

$15 TX Mount FPV System by Mnemennth: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1829318

It's not my fault I happened to get placed directly above those much-despised RFgear by someone else.

It IS, however, just my LUCK.

Guys, it is just after 08h30 at work and we have the most brilliant flying weather here atm. 12 Celcius, not  leave moving and I AM STUCK AT THE OFFICE!!!!!. Days like this I blame Eve for doing what she did causing us to having to work with t he sweat on our brows..

Just do not want to be here with heli's begging to be flown at home. Weekend only 4 days away and with Mrs E at home on Saturday I will be off to the club in the afternoon, to fly and to pull on my lung sticks.

brian -

Oh, it gets better. Go back and look at my edited post; I think you'll probably be facing this problem when your KK2.0 gets to you.

Thanks for the kind regards on the FUBAR; actually, I was pretty sure you would but I've been stuck at home for 2 1/2 weeks while my wife does required training for next school season and didn't know when I was going to be able to get back to work for sure. [img][/img]

The HK Q450 is a full size quad; it's a knock-off of the current DJI FlameWheel 450. I consider it the ''450GT'' of the Quad world; two of 'em are $38.54 shipped with this current buddy code:

http://hk.rc-international.info/budd...version-229650

This is a good choice for first ''real'' quad; but of course, they only have the ''V1'' in the USA warehouse.

If you don't mind the hassle of installing one extra board, you can get the V1 and a power distribution board from the USA warehouse and save some bucks and get it quicker:

Use this buddy code for the power board:

http://hk.rc-international.info/budd...n-board-224552

And you can get 3 power boards (I always get all 3 when I buy on The Swarm; good to have a spare spare for only a couple bucks more) and 2 complete frames for $37.10 shipped via Priority Mail.

The power board has an advantage over the V2 chassis: it comes with bullet connectors for your ESCs instead of solder-on; this makes field-replacing an ESC easy, as well as isolating your ESCs for troubleshooting. I've been vacillating between these two setups myself for over a month; the convenience of the USA warehouse vs the added cost of the power boards. Those buddy codes will make the difference for me; if I get enough of my money fast enough I'll be getting the V1 kits & Power Boards from the USA warehouse.

Another option for the V1 kit is this:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

Oh, and here's a buddy code for the ''H'' frame you wanted from the USA warehouse:

http://hk.rc-international.info/budd...e-470mm-228991

Dooya get the idea I've been shopping this for a while? [img][/img]

I have NO PROBLEM finding things to spend money on...

Hiya mnem - I just got the "OK" to paper this build and first of all, thanks for makin' my head explode![:@] A LOT of information to consume and I still don't have a full understanding of some of the smaller things. There again, I think your point is WELL made with the "baby steps" on this. I don't wanna smoke a 200USD frame right off the bat!

If I use the below build a Q450 w/ extra frames will be around 250 USD if I rob one of my Orange Tx off another project.

I'm not in a hurry to get the stuff so I'll just order over seas for the most part!

Sorry about the KK2 board. What do you do, use a blow drier and spot glue on the corners? Buy a NAZA (300 USD?) Grrrr!

What are you looking for for motors?

Look at the below and see what ya think?

b

"Rain, rain, go away..."

"My exact setup is as follows and it works great carrying a GoPro Hero 2 and solid aerobatics, loops, rolls, etc. Turnigy 2836/9 950kv motors, Turnigy Plush 30 amp ESCs, APC 10x4.7 props, 2 pushers, 2 normal, 6 channel Orange receiver, KK2 board with V1.5 Firmware installed and a 3S 3000 mAh Lipo that gives 7 minutes of flight with ease and plenty of battery to spare. I have also installed green LEDs up front and white LEDs in back to help with orientation at very high altitudes or long distance. Hopes this helps and good luck with the build.

Well the GT had a few problems so I pulled the tail and the HK bearings were gone. No wonder it was wagging.
Also I noticed the servo horn on the tail was binding on the case at full throws and actually had started to split.
Put another tail box on it and mounted the tail servo differently to stop the binding and all good to test it again.

I have 2 nice 450's to fly so I dont know why I am bothering with this one. Maybe to see if I can make it work.

@ Edmond. Yeah dont you hate it when its a perfect day and your stuck at work. Hope it stays good and you get some flying in.

@ mnem andDdaddy. Good to see someone get that Scot to open his wallet. He has been doing it to me for ages.
Now that the talk is about quads why all of a sudden do I start seeing so much stuff for them wherever I look. Your thoughts on these.

Hiya Ingleburn!

I'm not Ken or mememeeeennennenth but think I can have a go at the "Afro" Simon K ESC. It's for folk that you mentioned with the viddy above who need to have an esc that is attenuated for acrobatic/aerobatic flight. The Afro thing is cool as hell!

The camera is "Fat Shark" and compatable and easy to use with their system. There again it's attenuated for use in FPV and allows for pan/tilt. It can be used with or in lieu of the Hero 3 camera!

As for your horsing around with the third heli I suspect that you, like me secretly like "the build"?

Glad you got it sorted before a crash!

Yah, saw it this morning.

Quads and Hexes are flying for "dummies" like me who have to compensate for not being able to do floops, hurricanes or hoe de does!!!

The technical possibilities are endless!

My problem is that unlike our CP Helis there is a REALLY good chance our rigs will "fly away"!

Now that presents a conundrum. Do you really WANT to let someone know who owns yer stuff by leaving a business card on it or is "relative anonymity" a better thing when they dislodge it from the Statue of Liberty's face??

Hmmmmm?

Hi guys, well the first CP heli I ever built and flew is no more.

Second pack today and everything was great then I tried to get a bit fancy and drilled it into the ground.
A right off Blades, shafts, 2 servos, cracked frame, boom, skids, couple of links and even sheared the jesus bolt.
The gyro survived as well as the good tail box and Tarot head so when I get time will transplant them into the other frame I have left.
Only hoping I have enough parts left as Kozzy got a lot of them. To bad my cam was not working because it would have been good.
Got some footage post crash on my phone and a pic of what it looks like now after stripping it down.

I hate that for ya.
It really looks like one of my MINOR mishaps. I wish I had taken pics of my HK GT500 that Igot from Brian after my first Tic-Toc attempt.
The battery strap let go, and the battery and canopy went into the main blades at about 20 meters AGL. That thing literally exploded in mid-air.
Damage included main blades, canopy, two brand new Turnigy Nano-Tech 2200 3s, all the regular crash items, and it warped the frame to the point it wasn't worth trying to straighten.
I rebuilt it with a carbon frame, new bearing blocks, aluminum bottom plate, had to rebuild the head and tail, and installed new digital servos.
She flies quite well now.

After getting two teeth yanked, I still crawled back here to bring the news about the AfroESCs; grrrrr ingleburn!

But... sorry to hear about yer losing an old friend. That blows.

Brian -
I have an idea for a good, permanent fix for the KK2.0 (You knew I would); I'll post here with the details if it works.

WAIT! DON'T CLICK THAT BUY BUTTON! If you did already, cancel the motors until you read this:

My top three motors from HK right now are these, and ALLavailable from the USAwarehouse:

#1) Best quality, rep for being extra smooth for FPV, prop hub attaches to bell instead of shaft, so much likelier to survive to your next build intact, and decent bearings from git-go. With the required prop hub below, about $7 each or $28 more overall than #3 below. Worth it to me; I have learned the hard way to not cheap out (too much) on motors. I have two of the NTM PropDrive motors on planks; the difference in quality is like the difference between a Honda gas motor and a Tecumseh on your lawn tractor; they're not even the same species, really.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

#2) Same as #1, but slightly smaller and slower for a mild 450 FPV or 330mm build:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

#3) and your Turnigy D2836/9 950KV because it's pretty much the cheapest decent motor you can get from HK in this range:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

Alternately, there's a fellow selling his FLIP 450 on RCG right now with all the goodies and the good stuff:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...highlight=flip

Will work nicely with your KK2.0 or if you get a flip MFC from witespy, he'll ship it preprogrammed.

Did I mention the FLIP RTF QUAD comes preconfigured, trimmed and test flown WITH Spektrum RX, all for $299 SHIPPED?!?!?

http://witespyquad.gostorego.com/quads/the-flip.html

If you order this one he can eMail you the TX profile he used, and If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to be up and flying in less time than it takes to charge a battery.
I suggest you contact him and see what he has to offer. I think I will when I have the money.

mnem
This side's done... FLIP!

Hiya Ingleburn!

Just waking up here!

Three observations:

1) Wow, it was already in "rigor"[8D]

2) Yah, that's why I REFUSE to try new things!

3) Get a 500!!

I have two of the NTM PropDrive motors on planks; the difference in quality is like the difference between a Honda gas motor and a Tecumseh on your lawn tractor; they're not even the same species, really.

#2) Same as #1, but slightly smaller and slower for a mild 450 FPV or 330mm build:

#3) and your Turnigy D2836/9 950KV because it's pretty much the cheapest decent motor you can get from HK in this range:

This side's done... FLIP!

Hiya Mneneneth!

Accccck!

Where the h e l l were you yesterday?????

(Oh, getting teeth pulled. Sorry about THAT!)

I actually kinda knew this was gonna happen. But I'm good for this build. I looked at the flip and decided that much like CP's that I really, really need to treat myself to the JOYS of building from the ground up.

You though were actually very instrumental into "talking me down" in the previous post that reminded me that I really, really need to start with something that is expendable and do the "baby steps".

So's I calmed down, looked for a rig with specs that will be a good 1st step. The Flame Wheel knock off was a brilliant suggestion. As you see I bought two expendables and a PCB. The lower KV motors are the lowest that will do the job and more importantly provide longer flying times once the rig is loaded down. Further, all this will eventually be xferred to another rig that will work like the HK "H" frame.

The "Flip" is really great and I've actually been following "Whitespy" for a few years now. There again I think it's important to learn how to build, for the inevitable repair and well lets just talk about it. I need to learn "PID's"!

I'll spend the next six months wait for my HK gear to arrive reading about set up and constructing the quad test stand!

Many thanks for helping in the decision and I'll "wish list" the nice motors you recommended!

Time to slip off to the club!!

No, that's fine... You had asked my opinion on motors; there are a lot of suppliers out there selling all kinds. I just wanted to make sure you went into this armed with as much knowledge as I could provide.

The reason I suggested the Flip is BECAUSEof the learning curve, actually. witespy has a great rep for followup with his customers, and I know from my experience with the cheapo Hausler 450 RTF that I learned so much more so much faster once I had something that was set up right to begin with. The hardware build part... come on dude. Building a tail assembly on a 450 is more work and more complicated. It was the support from witespy that I thought was the BESTpart of THATdeal.

Good luck, and I'll get on that KK2.0 fix after my Flying Club meet.

Oh, and good luck with the waiting.

Ouch! But a good reason to have and fly 450's
At least you have some spare parts and can give you reason to order another kit, if wanted.

Hiya menm!

Sorry you can't eat a cheesburger! I can only imagine the misery of having teeth pulled as I have never experienced it since I'm genetically exempt from wisdom teeth (insert joke here)!

You did just fine sharing just a lil late on the motors! You had a GREAT excuse though!

Yup, I saw your point very clearly re: "Flip"! It was a great recommendation!

Yah, I been buyin' for HK for 6 years and have a great handle on the concept of "deferred gratitude"!

Plenty of other things to keep me busy in the mean time like SUMMER VACATION!

Not my winter vacation or my spring vacation but SUMMER VACATION in two weeks! WOOT!

Had a blast today!

I had the club to myself and was forced to fly my Slow Stick due to my leaving the Align 500 batteries at home! DOH!

Did some sailing this afternoon and now to "kick back" for fun!

Please enjoy the blather below!

I have to admit that THIS is how it reained every day in the summer when I was a kid!

My yard has never looked so nice!

Good luck on the club as it's been a relative benefit for me if not to get out and enjoy fellowship!

Good luck with the batts for the 500!

Soooooo sorry about your radio!

I've gotten into the habit of using the neck strap NO MATTER WHAT!

I dropped mine once and had a devil of a time finding the switches locally! That was the ole DX6i!

Happy flyin' and happy 4th as I will be working a loooooooooong day tomorrow!!

Cheers!
