Any chance you guys have the proper CG for the Banana Hobby 55mm A-10. I just changed the Fans and motors for my son, but can't remember the CG location.
I put the XF-Fans from hobby-lobby with Sapac Black Tornados 4800kv. This Set is pulling 46amp with about 580w.
Thanks
Jose

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Read a lot of remarks on the Guanli A10, and appreciate the amount of knowledge displayed. My experience: stock motors/battery (650mah 9.6v) - too little power to take off, and battery energy dies very quickly (I did less than 3 minutes taxying on an asphalt surface - varying distances and throttle settings). Battery comes out extremely hot. Bought a li-po 1300 mah 3cell (11.1v) and as soon as I connect it (TX on) the motors scream (in reverse) and there is no throttle control at all. Any ideas? ESC no good? Motors are wired correctly (red to red, black to black) Grateful for direction.

Hi Rysium
Thanks for such a quick response. Yeah, that's what I thought, but when I reconnect the nimh battery, everything works, so no frying electronics, it seems. But, I have just discovered, the mini-tamiya plug I purchased from Batteryspaceis wired with the ROUND connector as red, and the BLACK as square, whereas the female end on the ESC is wired opposite. I appreciate the tip.

dont know if anyone really knows the CofG location as its not mentioned in plans i dont think, there is some discussion back a ways in here on that
I tried working it out once with the formula in here that i posted and i think i came up with 1-5/8" to 1/3/4" back from leading edge
usually if you take 30% of the chord that works out quite close
perhaps someone who is presently flying can add some information to this

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
I have a lot of planes and i get bored with them so I look for interesting projects. My latest was the DO-335 twin foamie and it flies great with upgrades. So honest opinion on this A 10 after all the work. If I got the brushless RTF for $140 would it be a disaster? Anybody still having fun with this model or is it a waste of time and money.
I have the T 28, Coarsair, Taylorcraft, and a bunch of planes that fly on rails. i am looking for a little challenge but not an IMPOSSIBLE one!!
Thanks for any input. I will hold off on ordering for now. Great thread though!

My A-10s are stock and I like them. I enjoy flying scale and not overpowering my jets, especially the A-10. As a matter of fact, all 23 of my foamy EDF jets are stock. Currently Banana Hobby and Nitroplanes are offering nice brushless 55mm A-10s. Good luck and safe flying!
Have fun,
Tony

Be specific - brushless from Banana Hobby or brushed from NitroPlanes? This is a big difference, so without that people may be confused or even worse, got wrong impression.

I don"t have anythiing (wouldnt buy anything) Brushed. i was wondering if you guys thought that the brushless A 10 would be any good. It seems like there is a lot of negitive on this plane, but is it just the powerplant? Does it fly good once you get it in the air?

- 27MHz radio (useless in most parts of the world)
- Engines/rotors (underpowered, unbalanced)
- Battery (NiMh undersized for the power required)
These three I have changed and after that the plane is very nice flyer. It is not a beginner airplane, but the flying characteristic is very good.
There are minor things, worth to mention here, but easy to fix and they are nothing so big that might stop you from loving this plane.
- landing gear wire is to soft (easy to be replaced with real piano wire)
- some people complained about servos - I don't. But if you get bad servo, it is easy to replace it with 3-dollars servo from Hobby City.
- the foam is soft, but is is not a "slam around" plane. Be gentle wit it, and it will fly well and look great.
So the bottom line is, that looks like NitroPlanes and Banana Hobby wised up and fixed the power issue (engines, ESC and battery). I don't know about the radio.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
thanks for the input.
I buy these cheap planes and pitch the radios (I have a bunch sitting around) and put in my programmable Futaba. Landing gear seems to always be a problem (T 28 and Corsair too) and I take off and land on a pavement runway. I just wanted to see if it had decent flying characteristics. I have had a few planes now that just flew horribly. There was just nothing to do...it just flew bad. (Hobby City T 34 edf, Elictrifly L 39, E flight piper pawnee all flew horrible)
I have had MANY good experiences though!
Thanks, I will consider this one then...

See my video flying after converting to brushless at [link=http://www.masmrc.com/events-and-fun-stuff/videos/121-modified-guanli-a-10]www.masmrc.com[/link] About 2:35 at this video you can see I stalled it at the slow speed and it just dropped flat.

Yea, looks like you did a nice job with it. I prefer planes that actually fly versus ones that you have to FORCE to fly! sure looks good though! May have to pass on this one. Never have won yet on a plane that no one says flys good.

Actually I did not need to do anything. Just keep the elevator up. It did not tip stall, did not drop the wing, did not fall on the nose, sis not snap. Kind of funny, that you may fly thys plane at slow speed high alpha like a pizza box. What I was saying - this plane flies very well not even taking int account that it is EDF not a prop (every EDF is slow on power) and quite small size.
Not a trainer means: If you screwed up. you are done - you end up with pile of styrofoam. It does not correct it's attitude. It will fly where you point it - it is not a trainer that will correct itself when you let go on sticks.
But if you know how to fly the plane, this one is quite fun.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
OK, so i think I am going to go for this plane after all. i have money and can't find anything else that is as unique. NOW the question it that bannana has it and nitroplanes has it. they LOOK different. different graphics and one says 2009 version. One has silver, camo and desert. The other one only has desert and camo.
Are these different planes?
the stores are probably linked somehow, is one better to order from than the other. (Neither have good reviews)
Both are brushless and both come with a LIpo, but at Bannana you can deselect the radio and it comes out to the same price as Nitro with the radio that I dont need.
input?

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
luvmykids2 - I just flew my Brushless Banana Hobby (BH) 55mm A-10 tonight and it's so much fun to fly. I don't own the Nitroplanes version, so I can't speak on it but I am happy with mine. As a matter of fact, I'm picking up the green BH version next week. I have a set of GWS decals that I'll apply to it. The peel and stick decals that come with the kit are way too oversized for the scale of the A-10. I like scale looking jets. Just my thing!
Good luck,
Tony

Cool, thnaks for the input! Ordered the BH one tonight. Did you have any servo, ESC problems with it at all? that seems to be an issue.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
The only issue is the 1800 mAh pack make it a little nose heavy but nothing to worry about. I use a 1600 mAh pack and it flys perfect. When I fly the 1800mAh pack, I add two clicks of up trim and it flys fine. Good luck and have fun!

Here's pictures of my Silver version, prior to painting it and the Green Camo A-10 which was originally Silver! I extended the nose gear, added a pilot, a gun, scale wheels and carbon fiber rods to the wing and the horizontal stabilizer on both A-10s.
Best,
Tony
