Rough day at Nall

Yep. A friend lost his Yellow F-18. Aileron servo drove full deflection after takeoff. He fought it till the end and dumped it on purpose to keep it out of the populated area. Shut it down but it still burned, battery pack shorted out. He damaged a CARF J10 due top a LiIon fire on the ground. A Skygate Hawk just went in for unknown causes, total loss.. A Viper of unknown make lost a wing, another blew the pipe out the rear was damaged on emergency landing. Not sure about the others.

No crashes, jets or otherwise, the 5 hours I was there today. At least a couple of the jet losses yesterday were said to be radio issues. There is concern again about over crowding on 2.4. Some of the Jeti guys were reportedly getting low signal warnings during their fights although none caused control issues with them. Here are a few pics from today:

There were more jets at the Nall this year than I ever remember seeing. At least 1 in the air most of the time. Several Rebel Pros, Bandits, a few Havocs, Leonardo, L-39, and a nice mix of good looking warbirds; F-15, F-16's, A-10, B-2, and Buckeye to name a few. A small BVM tent was the only jet manufacturer I saw although there were over 70 vendors. FYI, Robby Lynch has just gone to work for BVM and was putting on some nice flights with a Thunderbird PNP F-16.

- Main flight line for big scale and jets
- Electric flight line
- Electric 3D flight line
- Gasser 3D flight line/pond
- Control line circle (ok, no transmitter issues here)
- Float plane flying (plus some r/c boats)
- Helicopter area
- and new this year; a Racing Drone obstacle course

1. Ali version of flux capcitor?
2. Electric cup to keep Tea or Coffee warm?
3. Some kind of fueling system to fill the tank?
4. Put a blower on top to start the turbine?
I'm confused... help me

We would see the saturation of the 2.4Ghz band on a regular basis with the equipment embedded scanner. This equates to a significant raise of the noise level on lots of channels of the band.
However some channels would be much more free and that's where the beauty of the intelligent frequency hopping algorithm that the Weatronic engineers developed.
Our equipment was consistently proving a strong level of LQI despite of the rapid degradation of the RSSI.
We kept recording the radio electric environment and Weatronic performance throughout the event.

Great event. There were a lot of jets lost. I was spotting for bob and his viper jet which lost the right wing panel. It looked like the fiber servo arm was cracked, probably from an earlier incident etc, then let go when he was flying causing aileron flutter which blew the right wing up.
interesting fact that mainly it was jets lost which doesn't indicate a blanket radio issue as jets were outnumbered 50/1 easily.

Oli,
Thank you for reminding me why I bought a BAT60. I just put it on its charger. I doubt I will ever fly in such a saturated environment as the Nall. Or even Jets over Kentucky but I would like to attend both.
Some of the recent banter about radio systems makes me miss my Profi 4000, well I don't have to miss it I still have 3, but even the patch cable to a Wea DV4 module had problems. And I noted even the newest Jet Munts manuals show a Profi 4K as the radio.
We all answer to the electrons.

I was one of the jet losses but it was not due to radio issues. A damn tree jumped up and grabbed my Rebel Pro. Someone needs to feed those trees more often!!! My Jeti DS16 was working flawlessly. No low signal issues. Looking forward to the DS24 which will transmit on 900MHz as well so 2.4 saturation will not be an issue for us. RIP my Orange missile! Hello Havoc? Stay tuned at Flightwerkz!
