What's with the RCU Search lately?
The RCU search used to be one of the best forum searches I've ever used, I could type something in and it would always find me the thread I was looking for.
Lately though, I can type in the exact thread title and it doesn't find the thread at all. One example, I started a thread called "Fire in the sky" but the search can't find it. There is now a post from a guy looking for air magic retracts, there was just a thread for the same thing a few weeks ago but I can't find it using the words air magic in the search.
Maybe this is why so many OLD threads get resurrected. Is there a glitch with the search? Am I using it wrong (don't know how I could be, you type words in and hit search LOL)
Anyone else have the same issue?

RE: What's with the RCU Search lately?
Hi Marc,
Both of the threads I was referring to are weeks if not months old.
Here is the "Fire in the Sky" thread I mentioned
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_92...tm.htm#9281165
I can type in JMP Firebird, Fire in the sky, whatever words and it won't find that thread for me.
Another one I searched for recently is "Tomahawk Futura" looking for this thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_93...tm.htm#9383015
But it doesn't show up either.
In fact I just tried a search for exactly this spelling "Feibo SU-27 Build Thread" from a thread on page one of the jets forum, and it doesn't show up in the search at all.
I started a thread called "Al Watson's Super Bandit for 2010" Typing in the thread title doesn't find it, but yet, if I type in "firebird" which is just one word that I used in the post, it will come up in the search, of course that's hardly useful when I wasn't searching firebird.
The search used to work very well for me, but probably about 5 months or so ago it started acting up on me.

The old search facility was much better.

I'm going to rebuild the index which may have gaps for to be determined reasons. It will take a couple hours to complete
BTW the biggest complaint on RCU before we brought the new search online was that search was not good. Hence the reason we made a big spend to bring the new search on while keeping the old one available for those who want to try their luck at that.

Yup. Ican see results for that term now too. The reindex is still only about 33% completed so things could duck in and out as it folds in the index files on this full update.
I think what happened is that when the search server crashes during an incremental update it causes some of the previous incrementals to not show up in the results. Basically there is one HUGEfile that is created on full index. then all subsequent incrementals are added as files for update speed efficiency. If those update files don't get folded in then results would be incomplete.
IF it happens again just PM me. A full rebuild looks like the fix. I'll also look to see if we can decrease the frequency of crashes.
