Default Panzer III L Project

So a while ago, maybe a couple years by now, my PzIII broke down on me. The gears stripped and I ordered the mato metal upgrade set. Fast forward to now, and i'm back on it. You can read about it on my blog here:

http://bhop73.blogspot.com/2011/07/1...zer-iii-l.html

but here are some teaser shots.

Not difficult at all. Basically you'll need to shave/cut most of the original part off. The metal parts each have three prongs sticking out, so you'll need to drill holes in the back of the hull. My set, which I assume is the same as yours, had a template for the holes. Once the holes are drilled, you just glue the parts in place with some strong glue, like epoxy or super glue. I just used super glue, I figure the track tension will keep it from weakening.

I ordered them from welsh dragon. They came pretty quickly considering they're in the UK.

What is the green putty you use for the welds? Cool headlight covers. Scratch built?

The putty is a generic version of kneadatite epoxy putty (commonly known as 'green stuff'). It's popular in the miniature sculpting world.. The headlight covers are scratchbuilt from styrene. They're not perfect, but better than before I think.

I'm following this build with great interest and I'm sure I'm not alone. Keep on the updates, it's looking superb and has given me some top ideas for my future PIII build.

The tracks, suspension, sprockets and idlers are all metal, from mato.

These PzKw III and IV builds are the best!! The machines are so full of detail, and mechanical bits that you don't see as much with Panthers and KT's. Love this build thread, please keep us posted and thank you for the fascinating read so far!! Cheers.

Putting in all the little details you have done like the tow cable clamps and brackets, headlight wires and weld beads are time consuming but really make the tank stand out. What kind of paint scheme are you going with?

Keeping it simple with an Afrika Korps paintjob.

bhop73,
I agree with all the other posts. Your PZIII is looking great and I have followed along from the start. I also plan on doing a PZ III from the battle of kursk ( used as a command tank I believe ). I plan on adding side skirts. It will be a companion tanks to my PZ IV. Again, thanks for sharing and do keep posting.

Looks great!  Talk us through the tow cable channels.  How did you build those?

This is one great looking Panzer III! A lot of detail, homework and sweat equity went into this.
