I could be wrong, but I dont believe MAD gear was installed in the turret. It does look similar to the recoil dampner on an M-61A1 Vulcan cannon, but thats not it either.

Those are great trainers, but I believe they are both post war trainers. This one is an American made trainer. As far as I have been able to tell, every US pilot flew them in training during WW2.
