Yeah and I really though the Lysander's slats (along with the split flaps) were all about short field capability for its role in clandestine operations. I didn't think anybody intended it to do much...

Hmm. On the 109 they extended, retracted by air pressure... but on the 163 they were fixed slots.

On the 109 they were implemented to improve low speed maneuverability, by the time of the 163...

They all employed leading edge slats. To reduce stall speed - either for shorter takeoff or slower landing speeds (or both).

This is a tough one.

So we know its Axis.
Judging from the pallet its on, it looks to be close to 4 ft in diameter.
You say its from the same time frame as the Jumo engine... even though...

Damn thats a tough one.

I know that the loaded weight of the D increased around 500lb due to the 2 extra guns, extra ammo and some wing strengthening. But power on the latest V-1650 was also up...
