Forgive me for asking what may be a dumb question, and I didn't want to scroll through this entire thread looking for the answer, but has Saito stopped making their .30? Within the last month or so, I found them listed online at several places, but now I am unable to find any.
I hope not, because I have 2 planes in mind to build next, and the .30 would work great on them.

I just noticed they discontinued the 72 also.

Animals have the 6th sense, they know which day hunting season starts, what kind of guns you own and how good you are at using them. Deer even know your tolerance for cold and will be standing in front of your deer stand 5 minutes after you left it to go warm up. Burrrr & Gurrrr!

There are quite a few secondhand fa30's new and used for sale, a brilliant engine that would rip a 10x6 mas prop on the bench. If money is no object saito did a run of gold plated fa30's a few years back, dave may be able to tell you more even down to crankcase stampings.
ps mike, i'd love to say all aussie rc pilots downunder were rooting for you but i can't. America is the only place in the whole wide world that means that the way you guy's do, i rest my case.

There are several of the little 30's for sale at the E site and other places, as to the letters, they never actually changed them, I have an early one and a late one one and they are identical.
The 72 and 82 each weigh 17.6 oz and are physically the same size, a 72-b would be a rare find if they actually made one. Saito makes a run of 30's every now and then, Horizon and MacGregors both have plenty 30-s parts. The Saito engine code at Horizon is MM.

Dave, a pic from the classifieds.
Saito 72B
New case with high cam box, metal rear cover and front venting. All the good stuff. I replaced the plastic rear cover on my 72a with the metal one used on the 72b and 82. Great running engines.

So first off outrider6.
The only stupid question is one that was never asked.
Second scored a 40sized Rascel with a Saito 45.
should be fun. Side note I didn’t know Sig made a 40 size Rascel

ps jim if you look back through the pics gary posted you will see that in one that he is wearing what looks like a stainless steel stretchy watch strap, you know, the kind that traps your arm hairs when you put it on and tears a lot out when you take the watch off....here's a safety warning for members here if you fly big electric heli's with house brick size batteries. Somehow the pilot managed to short circuit one with his stainless steel watch strap, man did that leave a large carbonated flesh impression on his wrist when we all looked. Mind you that took a while we had to wait for him to land and i wasn't that worried....it was only a stinky heli pilot
Back in my teens a neighbor was taking his starter from an old Pontiac without bothering to unground the battery negative terminal. While removing the nut from the starter's battery terminal his wrench made contact with ground thru his wedding ring. They tried to save the finger but no luck. Working around both machinery and very high voltages and currents I have made a habit of not wearing jewelry or wrist watches of any kind while working. They do not forbid it at work but strongly warn against the practice.

I had my wedding ring short across house current more than once it isn't fun. When I was young and dumb (as oppose to old and dumb now ) I was an alarm technician and would install carrier current light switches without turn the power off. We didn't want to inconvenience the paying customers and the power panels were never marked any way. When the alarm triggered it turned a light on.
OKC
I used to install alarms too. Mostly concealed wiring in large homes of rich folks.
That was just before getting married. Interesting..
BTW, That watchband is not a favorite.Too heavy.
No, it is not a stretch band though and it does not grab hairs like so many do.

Yup
being a mechanic, carpenter, carpet installer even I quit wearing jewelry shortly after I got married I snag my ring on a car door and dang near ripped it off, ok it hurt really bad 😩. Had a hard time explaining that to the kids. Why I didn’t wear jewelry

I used to wear a wedding ring all the time. One day I was opening the tail gate on my truck. It had a plastic tail gate protector that wrapped around the top of it. When I unlatched the tail gate, I just let it drop. It caught my ring and I thought it was going to pull my finger off. It sure hurt for a while.
Now my rule is the only time I wear the ring is when I have to be dressed in a necktie.

Likewise,
Hammer forming, welding, handling sharp, heavily burred sheet metal would destroy most all jewelry and watches anyhow. I do wear a wrist watch but never while working.
My uncle was a USN Hellcat pilot WWII. He had a real cool watchband that he bought during the war. I looked for but never found one like it. I borrowed that watch and made a clone of the band.
Made from 2024 aluminum sheet it is very lightweight and comfortable. You can slip it off in a couple of seconds and it never pulls at hairs.
Yours for the postage. Got a box and they ship very light.

The Saito 72 never did not have the high cam, the high cam thing happened way back during the 45 days. I will back into the Saito mode in a day or two, I have much wood to split today.
Many years ago in W. Va. I was placing a load coil, (an inductance coil) on a telephone cable on a mountain top in W. Va. They were installed about every 6,000 feet to balance out capacitance. A female co-worker and I had spent the previous day carrying two ladders and all the other equipment needed to install the coils, 600 of them. I had three cable pairs left to do when a storm came up. A mountain top in W. Va. is not a good a place to be in a storm. Lightning hit a tree about 100 feet from me, dirt blew high in the air from around the base of the tree, long story short, my flexy watch band was against the metal frame of the splice closure, bleed off from the lightning burned a perfect pattern of the watch band into my left arm. If you ever talked on the phone and it sounded like you were talking into 55 gallon drum, one of those coils was missing or placed too far from the previous one.
OK. Mike, I will try to make another rear facing vent and get them to you.
Ia. Mike, did you get the engines, Thanks

I had a Rascal 40 exactly like that, I flew it off and on for about10 years. I had a PAW 40 Diesel in it, due to the PAW having the muffler cast as part of the exhaust ring, I had to disassemble the engine, install the crankcase, then the exhaust ring and then the cylinder. The little Diesel turned a Graupner Grey 12 x 6 at just over 9,000, what a great flyer. Those PAW's would purr all day without so much as a hiccup.

I have the same plane in red powered by a 52FS (not a Saito). It’s a great flying plane. I took off the wheel pants because I fly from grass. I had to replace the aluminum engine hold downs with parts I made from steel because one of the aluminum hold downs broke. Watch for that. Also, I think I replaced the main landing gear mount that was made from what looked like soft pine with a one I made from plywood. Mine has had had many gallons of fuel through it and is still flying. I believe this is the original version of the Rascal ARF.
