That castor smell takes me back to my karting days! The track was heavy with that smell after the ally karts tan. It was the gasoline stench that I hated.

Try mixing your own fuel perhaps? At 2% castor there is no detectable castor smell. Did wildcat use Klotz or some "secret" oil?

I just got my order of Motul Micro 2T yesterday. At $80 per gallon, I doubt it is worth double the cost of Klotz but just had to try some!

Ok, I get to run the 115 using the S&W fuel, pretty much what you'd expect, again plenty of lube from the vent. I touched up the low speed needle.

Same set up as the other run except for the fuel
Same Xoar 15 x 7
Max rpm 8,890
Idle rpm 1,850

If you can judge a fuel after 12 oz, I'd say it's a good one.
The Wildcat full syn didn't have much of a smell and neither does the S&W.

Sig uses Klotz and afaik it was made for them by Byrons, same folks who made Wildcat.
Does SW keep their oil "secret"?

Five hard run years on home brew 12% synth / 2% castor Saito 150 high compression. No complaints. All I can smell is Klotz and Nitromethane.

All the years I bought Wildcat and talked to the owner at Toledo the word Klotz was never mentioned or seen. They made it in Nicholasville, Ky.

Sounds like the guys at my field. .Cubs don't fly that fast! Cubs don't climb that fast! Cubs don't take off that fast! That's not how Cubs fly! Well, sorry if I have an FA-100 with a 15 x 6 on a plane built for an FA-56. I kind of like my Cub with Afterburners.

Bruce you sound like my kinda guy, with few exceptions it's not possible to over power a plane and a bigger saito is always better, i usually go about two and a half times bigger that the recommended two stroke. Sorry to hear you don't like the smell of castor, i was raised on it, but nothing beats the smell of rc diesel fuel. I've often considered buying a small hip flask snifter size bottle and patting a little on my moustache at the field.

Lonnie nice field you have there. Could the members build a small shelter hut for the peanut gallery well back from the flight line? maybe put a sign up saying "God's waiting room" and if you put free battery charge points ( for pacemaker batteries, sorry, nimh batteries etc ) in there they will charge in there like seagulls on hot chips.

Now that's a beautiful flying field Dave. Sweeeet I don't keep data for test runs with other prop manufacturers, just apc. I'll mount up a Xoar 15x7 on the 115 and post the numbers for you later.

Pete, thanks for the ideas. Maybe a charge station for hearing aids and a Depends dispenser would help keep the Rudolph Harts in there longer. A cute young nurse would keep them distracted forever. Our field is equipped with the bare minimum as far as amenities go but the runway is very long, smooth and easy on landing gear.

My flying field has a porta potty and a big burn pile that encroaches the runway. BYOS too. Should probably get a Scope for my Henry and ween the field of gophers too.

Well it's looking like I'm going to have to pull the 180 from the P47 and investigate for causes of excessive vibration. Went to clean up the plane real nice this morning after yesterday's flights and found retract screws rattling around inside the wings, both sides. All except one screw were loose on the retract mechanisms and I had previously lost one wheel, an axle and several canopy screws.

At this point the 180 is leaned as far as what I would consider safe to fly, the prop and spinner are in perfect balance. It's smooth at some rpm and vibrates so hard at others, including peak, that it's blurry to look at. I fear the crank is not perfectly straight. Looks like I'll have to pull the crank and indicate it using V blocks and my surface plate.

Here is the residual oil in the crank case, not as much as I'm used to seeing, it made a flood of oil from the vent, that was more than I'm used to seeing. Maybe it's deceptive because it does extend through the rear bearing.

I was trying to copy and pasted my rpm for several engines, but the One Note program has them protected and all that shows up is about 12" of gibberish.

Hope you find the source of that vibration soon. Something is certainly amiss. Worse yet the radio maladies You Depends users must be careful of where you store your used product . They may be exposing your equipment to corrosive gasses

Maybe the oil they use flows better at running temps so it blows out quicker. In a way that is better since it will allow for a few more RPM by not having to move heavy oil .

One huge benefit of mixing your own fuel is not having to "guess" what the maker is using for oil. You know
exactly what is there as well as how much. Win/Win

Getting the material to make your own is the problem. There is no place around here where I can buy Methanol. I don't use enough to order 5 gallons for the exorbitant costs they charge either. If I could have, I would have.

Corrosive gasses! Lmao!

The source of my radio problems was a binding retract, made things act like a drained battery. A plastic ball link was used on one end of the control rod from the servo to the trunnion, it was folding over and binding everything.
I've taken out all the servos in the plane along with the retracts, loose screws everywhere!!!
