I have never seen a short in a servo.
What brand are they?
Why don't you pull it open and ohm the wire ad see where the short is?
May be fixable, unless it is on the PCB.

The bad servo was an original that came with the V2. Ihave some generics that Ihave to make fit, but they work just fine. Iam still testing,

Ichanged all my servos to HItec HS55's really like them.

Like all non OEMservos they need a little help to fit in but a single Zip-Tie on eawch one as a safety is all you need.

I just disemboweled the servo and could see nothing wrong. Ihave to just guess that perhaps it was locked in a bad position that caused a short. It also has a tiny circuit board so something could have gone wrong in there. No burn areas or wires, and no electrical smell. When Iconnected the bad servo, the RX would immediately heat up. Ihave the old RX that Ithought was dead hooked up and Ihave all controls and throttle, but it is too windy outside to see if the gyro still works.
I use a paperclip held in with hotglue to make the servos Ihave fit. Ialso have to reverse the servo on the TX to get it to work right.

RE: Falcon 40 (Exceed heli) Forum
Hello,
I am running my Falcon 40 V1 with the stock battery and a replacement main motor (I forget where I got the main motor from). Anyway, I started flying it again after not flying for quite a while, and it seems that at the start, there is not a lot of power, but after about 30 sec - 1 min of flying there is more, like when I first got the heli. So is this a symptom of a motor or battery problem? The replacement main motor has been used for quite some time, it is not new
Also,
- where can I get good replacements for both the main motor and the NiMH battery pack?
- What parts do I need to upgrade to the new V2 rotor head/rotor head core? I have a lot of spare parts, but when that Y shaped rotor head core breaks, it is a pain in the but.
- I know that this is an old heli, probably not worth spending much on upgrading, but is there one or two of the CNC upgrade parts that are really worth it. (Just so you know, I do not want to upgrade to Lipo)
Thanks.

That's weird. Almost like something is warming up...Not that it should do that. Batteries don't tend to do that sort of thing, but I could see a brushed motor getting better performance as it heats up and possible makes better contact. So, I would guess the motor is going.

Why not lipo?

Thanks, I will look into ushobbysupply. Do you know what motor by chance? Or is it clear?
Why not lipo? - I live in a multi unit building with very young, very old, and very disabled residents. I know the chance of a serious problem with lipos is very, very unlikely, I do not want to take the chance and affect other people, probably severely if there was a problem.

Good enough reason for not using Lipos. There are LiFePO4 (aka A123) batteries which have the high power density, but are safer. I usually just use Lipos, so I wouldn't have a recommended place to point you toward. You might have better luck on the Battery thread of this site.

Thanks for the response. I did find the original NiMH batteries at Nitroplanes, I guess I will see how long they have been setting around when I get them. I also got two replacement main motors from USHobbySupply
Also, I have a 4in1 I replaced, I forget what the exact problem was, I think it just did not respond. What are the steps to try and diagnose the problem. I don't need it right now, but don't want to end up buying another new one if the current one I am using (the replacement) goes bad.
Thanks.

For a V1 Falcon 40 (72MHz):
If the receiver doesn't see the TX, (the light doesn't blink like it should)
check the crystal
If the main motor doesn't turn, but the tail does
the MOSFET for the main is probably burned out (but can be replaced)
If both motors don't run, but the servos respond
then both MOSFETs are probably burned out
Let us know what the symptoms are.

Boy, this is embarrassing, I figured out the reason I was having trouble with that Rx, was because the crystal was loose!! Need to pay more attention.
Thanks for the tips on what to look for anyway, I will keep them in mind if I have trouble in the future.
To anybody,
If you have a V1 Falcon you are not using, and have any of the CNC upgrades, let me know, we can make a deal perhaps.
Thanks.

FYI, Before swapping in one of the new motors, I tried one of new battery packs I got from Nitroplanes. Works great, no 'warm up' needed. Full power from the start. I did do a forming charge on the pack before I used it the first time. BTW, the two new battery packs I got from Nitroplanes were only 2 months newer than my old pack. Both dated early 2009.
I will post something if the other new pack does not perform the same.

For all the "old timers" on this forum, just thought I'd check in and let you know I'm still lurking in the background. Hope everything is going well for everyone. Jim

Alright yall... I've had my falcon forever haha, just took it out to fly around in the house and smacked a table trying to trim it after about a year of it sitting on the shelf... anyways, cracked the main blade and I can NOT find another one. The only ones I see are from japan and I'm not paying 10 dollars shipping for a 6 dollar blade [:@]
Anyways, I tried searching the thread but is there any upgrade blades you all recommend? If so, got a link?

Alright fellas... got the blades on, now the tail seems like it doesn't want to keep up..... It's very slight when I add full right trim, but still, it wanders to the side. I honestly don't really need the falcon, haha I have way too much stuff in the hangar and I never fly this thing. If anybody wants a Falcon basically brand new with MAYBE 10 flights on it, shoot me a PM or just post it in here... I'll send it your way for a very low price with the superblades included
It is the newer Falcon V2 version.

Thanks for the great offer. I realize that the Falcons Ihave, all have tail lock issues and if I get one more with a tail lock issue Iwill not have any that work. I just installed a new 4in1 with the same problem so perhaps this winter I can figure this out and decide if I just got a faulty new 4in 1. I replaced the main and tail motors, so who knows what is going on.
Thanks,
Pat

Morning All:
The gyro in the 4in1 of the F-40 is not that great.
You will always have some drift. you can turn up the gain on teh gyro a bit but that will not help a lot.
