Miguel,
Keep it coming buddy.
My lastest Viper Jet I set up crow ailerons with full flap. She land really nice and slow. I don't need speed brake at all.
Imagine land the Viper Jet with power and Dave can grease her less than 300 feet at our county field. Before we had to use up all the runway.
You can see how our field look like from Super Hornet DVD.
I will get the surface throw for you this weeken. I'm very busy preparing for Superman Jets week right now. Hope this saturday will take care it for you.

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Miguel,
Listen to Tam and try out the crow on the ViperJet, it is just what that plane needed to be able to slow down and land on a short runway. Use the crow along with the full flap position and deploy on downwind once you have slowed the plane down for a normal landing pattern. The crow causes the nose to raise up therefore you will need to hold just a couple of clicks of power to push it along. We tried this on the maiden flight on Tams latest Viperjet that I test flew at our local flying field that has only a 500 ft. runway...I couldnt believe it when the last notch of flaps were selected with the crow mix, speed brakes out, 3 clicks of throttle, and the ViperJet was on autoland. Touched down at the numbers, and stopped before the midpoint. I thought that this was too good to be true, and maybe I got lucky. So we hot fueled it and blasted off again. Second landing was identical. Tam has landed it since then without deploying the speedbrakes, and the slight nose high attitude is enough to allow the plane to slow down and land on the mark.
Get the throws from Tam, give it a try...Im sure you will agree that this was just what the doctor ordered.
Cant wait to here from you after you fly it.
Best regards,
Dave

I will keep it comming!.-
Last night spent time in a friend's house working with the electronic circuit to have the lights strobing......veeeeeeery cool.- I assure 100% you'll love the light system with the super ultra mega bright leds
I'll program 2 flying modes in my radio (9Z) to try out the crow stuff. My only concern is about having the nose raised....Don't you prefer a leveled landing and flair before touchdown?

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Looking forward to the results, and recommended changes. A little slower landing speed would be nice, but not 100% necessary since full flaps slows her down nicely.
I would also like to get more info from someone on the speed brakes option too, as mine doesn't have them.

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Mark,
The speedbrakes are not a kit option. Tam came up with them himself, he made a template, cut them out, and made them functional. All the Viperjets you see with speedbrakes are the ones that Tam built. I dont know if Miguel made his own template or used Tams. Miguel posted very good details on how he installed speedbrakes in this thread, I suggest you follow his instructions because they are really the only documented accounts of how to install them.....Tam does his by memory. I got about 8 landings on the ViperJet yesterday using the Crow function without speedbrakes, and in my oppinion speedbrakes are no longer needed. Full flaps along with the crow are plenty to slow this thing down to crawl.

Mark,
Dave is right. Dave has been with Tamjets Demo Team and doing very good job. He know what he is talking about.
Speed brake was not an option. I personal add on for all the kits I built.
So there is none document for that.
If you wish to put on speed brake. Miguel had done very nice building thread on the speed brake. You should take a look at that.
But here is the information for crow set up.
Ailerons up 3/8" at full flaps.
Full flaps 1.5" down.

My buddies Green Hornet and Cato ( Dave & Tam) [&:], definitely I'll go with the crow set up, u da men that knows this bird....but as you understand I'm going to use also the speed brakes I allready made[&o], so let me have you recomendation (if any) to use them (SB and crow) toguether.
REMEMBER TO POST YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ALL SURFACES DEFLECTION AND MIXING
Mark, try this new crow set up first, it will make you safe weight, money and less stuff in the middle. The real Viper does not have speed brakes as this rc version. Theirs are located at the bottom of the wing right next to the landing gear. If you still want to make them for a cool touch, I'll be glad to answer any questions through this thread completing all details with the set up I made.
Regards,
Miguel

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
Miguel,
Sorry forget the throw.
Aielrons 1.75" travel total. Put some expo on ailerons for less sensitive.
Elevator 1.75" travel total.
Rudder 2" travel total. Put some expo on rudder for less sensitive.
Flaps : Half flap 3/4". Full flaps 1.5".
Crow ailerons 3/8" up.
No need to mix down elevator with flap down.
The trick is to slow down first than put down the gear.
Once is slow enough. Put down half flap. After put down half flaps. Fly for half circle than put full flap with crow mix.
With full flap and crow mix. The nose start to picth up to slow down. Throtle up couple click just enough to keep it flying.
Basic with crow set up using power to land. Instead gliding judement.
You can also use speed brake if you got one install. Is not necessary. Just remember to add more power.

TAIL CONE
Don't ask me how, but after some dishonorable actions, at the end I convince Tam to make me a tail cone for my Viper.
Tam as usual made a remarkable job and once again want to thanks him for his support.
If someone of you ask him for a tail cone for your Viperjet....he'll kill me []...NO TIME, VEWY BISY, HA TO GO TO CHINA, LICOUR STORE MORE EASIE LIFE, ETC, ECT
In my quest for saving weight......the results are that the effects of displacing the turbine forward only compensate the weight added by the tail cone and the displacement of the tailpipe aft.

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET
SOME DETAILS OF THE SMOKE SYSTEM....
To fill the system both valve at the panel right next to the turbine should be open. One valve control the liquid (smoke oil or diesel fuel) and the other the air (vent or over fill). At the bottom of the fuselage there are 2 custom made fittings, one to fill the system with smoke oil and the other to let the system breath.
After the smoke tank is full, both valve should be close, and then the system is pressurize through the schrader valve at 80~60 PSI, depending on the smoke tail density you want.
Very simple and reliable.
The B&B valve should be close....if you mistake with this is chance to make a mess cos the fluid is injected at the tail pipe behind the turbine exit cone....
Is has 2 injectors....in one of the pictures you can see one of them going through the bypass.

ELECTRONIC TRAYS.....
It will look better when finished, but here they are anyway....
I moved the UAT to the front of the rear former located at the electronic bay.
The steering servo was also moved to another location....saving space at the tray for the rest of the stuff
Sorry for the spaghetti look.....be patient

Miguel,
No problem.
I like your strope light. I plan to paint couple Blue Angel Viper Jet myself. With the Viper Jet getting so popular in California. When all of us go in the air the same time. Hard to tell which one are we flying.
But that will be done after moving to a shop. Right now I am ran out of space to work at home.
I already use up 50% of my home for storage and another 20 X 20 storage at my mom place. I really need a warehouse like my old shop.

A base need to be made to raise up the front tank for the clearance with the speedbrake system underneath it.
I made mine with carbon fiber plate, removable or course, and added a 1/2!QUOT! blue foam solid pad to get the final and adequate height.-
Also made a base to hold the front tank with a velcro strap....

All the servos extensions coming from the tail are protected with a FIBERGLASS INSULATING SLEEVES, that reduce 25% of the heat absorption....besides protecting the extentions like a shoe to your feet....

The addition of a second exit hole for the wing extensions was a good relieve.....my suggestion is to do it.-
Also, having the wheel bay removable is 100% convenience for a comfortable cable and hoses routing.....
That's it for today....this posting takes forever....haven't work all morning []....anyway I enjoy sharing all this [sm=thumbup.gif]
Next picture posting will be when plane is ready at the mainden day.-
Later.-
