Hey Andrew any chance on getting a drawing of the firewall and cowl with measurements? I want one of these but would like to install gas engines but I don't want to cut up the cowls and have engine sticking out all over the place. Would really appreciate it.

Hey warks 62 when I ordered mine I got the specs from VQ it looks like the G20 or the like will fit and hide within the cowl.

Hi fgpierce,

No problem with the kit description.

I've really only just assembled the airframe in the lounge room - I haven't started building as such. However, I must say that the fit of parts does seem to be good. Even the nacelles, which are trapezoidal in shape, marry up very nicely with the centre wing panel and tips, with no unevenness in the fit. Control surface gaps (at each end of the surface) are reasonable - probably about 3/32" at each end. A little more than I would have if scratchbuilding, but quite consistant and not at all offensive. Because the flap(s) hinge lines are not at a 90 degree angle to the nacelle sides or the fuselage sides, there are necessarily larger gaps there.

I'm currently pondering what material can be removed to lighten the structure, as mine will be electric. Much of the structure is reasonably light (eg the complete (big!) fuselage is 1650gm, including the overwing fairing). However, each nacelle is 910gm, excluding cowl! The Dremel will be earning its keep, me thinks.

I took the retracts & undercarriage to the club field last week, & everyone seemed quite impressed with the quality - it really does look good. I'll be flying off a (slightly lumpy) grass strip, so it'll be interesting to see how the oleos hold up. I may end up putting coil springs between the oleos & retract blocks, just to be sure.

Still very impressed with it.

n9331v thanks for the reply. What motors are you going to use? I talked to Paul at KMP and he recomended if using gas then a G20 would be a good match. I am not ready but will be in a while have to finish a couple of other projects then I am ready for this. This will be my 3rd twin and have always thought a F7 looked sexy and sleek. But the only way I want it is if it is gas and I don't mind a plug sticking out but not anymore than that. Plus carb and exhaust have to be considered. The Evolution 26 is also another one I am looking at since it is front carb and only exhaust will have to be considered. If you have any other thoughts or anybody let me know.

Andrew, do you have an updated status as to the delivery and customs? Also are you able to tell me the status of the one I have on order if I give you the LHS?

Warks 62

I have decided on using the G20's and I will change the ignition to C&H due to battery life and weight like I used in my B25. I was thinking of using the saito 170 radials due to the sound but I just cant make myself go back to glow. I plan on using the Fema onboard starters that will work with the G20's that chasrb mentioned and like the B25 I will use the dual smoke system. Another bonus with the G20's you can rotate the the cylinder head on one engine so the exhaust exits the same side as the other.
Once I get the F7F I plan on ordering an extra wing take it apart and make an electric folding wing since I cant do bomb doors etc.
When I finished my B25 it came in at 25lb and with the G20's it will really pull the plane when you want it to.

Thanks n9331v keep me posted I am about 6 months away right now but I think I will put a deposit down real soon since I expect it to be that long anyway. Paul had said that all the shipments so far are spoken for anyway. I too am thinking about the G20's but know that the ign would have to be changed. Maybe by then Zenoah will of changed them by then. They are taking way too much battery life for me. I also had thought about the Roto 25 since it is very compact design.

Hi:
The container is expected to be delivered on Tuesday to the door! If all goes as planned we will start to ship on Wednesday. The wait if finally over for the lucky few who get models from the first batch.

I also just got confirmation that that the next batch of (30) F7F along with the Typhoons and more Stuka's has just left the port in Hong Kong and is steaming its way here. Estimate about 31 days from today to our door.

Cheers,

Yes I got it about 12 days ago as well as a nice Typhoon for company.

Unfortunately I don't have room to build it at the moment. I've only taken time to slide it out to drool over the bits and pieces, play with the retracts and pull out the manual and then reluctantly put it safely away. I will be using a pair of Magnum 1.20 four strokes and 3 blade props. Although I am thinking maybe about using gassers, depends how much it's gonna cost me as I already have the 1.20s.

I'll wait till everyone else has had theirs flying for a while before I tackle it. Besides I've got to do the P38 then the B25 before I even think about touching the Tigercat and there's all the singles as well!

Now if I could only find some time!

Cheers

Hey Speedaholic, Yea I know I need it like another hole in my head but sometimes I just can not resist. Not sure if it will happen right now, it is still just a maybe. I still have to finish the Mustang before I do anything else. Plus all the other little thing I still want to do to my other planes.

Waneparrish

Are you the moderator? I see you started the thread. I was wondering if this forum can be closed and moved to "New KMP Full Composite Twin coming soon! " forum. It would be benefictial to us looking at this plane to have it in one spot.

Just an idea...

Akondor, since you are the man here, tell me this, will two Saito 170's really be to heavy for this plane? They are not much heavier than the G20's. Also would it be possible to get a set of cowls built at 200mm dia to accomodate the 170's? As you know they are 198 mm across. My LHS is asking if I want the pair of 170's I have asked them to locate for me since the 170 are rather scarce right now.

Please let me know soon. Tomas any ideas ?

Orcrest, you have the manual, what does it say about the plane specs?

chasrb,

Custom cowls... hmmmmm .... easiest thing and most likely solution would be to cut the cowlings in 1/2 and add an extension to them.... then fill sand and paint to match... You could just order some paint ...it comes in 2 oz bottles and is a perfect match as it is from KMP!!!

It is tough to make custom cowlings.... the molds are already in place...

Just another idea would be to send your cowlings off to fiberglass specialties or similar company and have them do the modification for you if you are not into that kind of thing...

that is just my .02 cents worth.... hope it is helpful....

as for engine choices.... I would keep the engines in the range of 1.20 4 strokes.... anything more is really a lot more than necessary... but then again.... you know and I know how to use the left stick!

cheers!

-TOMAS
The distance from prop driver to fire wall is 170mm with a possible another 10mm if needed, the cowl diameter is 190 at its widest part.

I forgot about fiberglass specialties! I may just do that, unfortunately there is the possibility of the original being destroyed in the process...

Engines, engines engines... 4s glow 170 too cool, 90 radial, may be under powering this model, 2s G20ei clean and still cool, RCV nice... I guess since my LHS has these 170's on hold I can pick them up and if they really won't work I can sell them. I am not sure about the wing loading numbers…if I add an additional 2.5 lbs, 170’s with muffler how much does that change the loading.

The manual is great. Thanks for the link.

Tomas, VQ Models or Andrew, KMP; are either one of you guys going to offer the F-7F and 2 RCV 91CD or 130 CD's as a combo, priced together; like KMP does with the B-25 & 2 RCV 91CD's, for a nice price?

Thanks, Doug.

For some reason I thought it was 88" wingspan...

From the other Tigercat forum...

SHOVEL 79,
I TALKED TO KONDOR AND THEY SAID THE T-CAT'S MANUAL ON LINE IS A MISPRINT ON THE WINGSPAN ( IT IS 88 IN.) AND THE WING LOADING IS'NT 56 OZ, IT'S QUITE A BIT LESS. MINE WAS SUPPOSED TO SHIP OUT YESTERDAY FROM CHIEF AIRCRAFT. CAN'T WIAT TO CHECK IT OUT.
ON THE ENGINE TOPIC, I'M PLANNING ON THE ZENOAH G-26. (TOO MUCH POWER IS JUST ENOUGH, YOU CAN ALWAYS THROTTLE BACK) THERE'S A LOT OF TALK ABOUT KEEPING THE WEIGHT DOWN BY USING THE ZENOAH G-20, HOWEVER I CHECKED OUT BOTH AT THE LOCAL HOBBY SHOP AND THE TOTAL PACKAGE OF THE G-20(WITH BATTERY) WEIGHS LITERALLY IDENTICAL TO THE G-26 AND NO GOOFY E.I. TO WORRY ABOUT. GLOW ENGINES ARE ALSO OUT BECAUSE OF THE HIGH COST OF FUEL, NOT TO MENTION THE SLIME.......WHO WANTS TO GOO UP THIS AWESOME BIRD?

Chasman, The online manual says 82.9, the Spec on the Tigercat page on the same website says 88"
Go figure.......

I just finished talking with Paul and Andrew about the wingspan...the guys in mfg may have a slightly mis-calibrated tape rule.. lol. It is not certain if the wings are 83 or so or 86 or so... only when I get the plane will I know.

I also talked them about my choice of engine, the Saito 170's (yes I bought two). They were a little concerned about the overpowering of the airframe, but upon further inspection the 170 will only end up being close to 25% more than the recommended...wait I found some good news on the OD of the 170R3

Well kinda, the tip to tip of the covers is 186 which will fit, but the complete OAL is 198 won;t know till I get my sweaty hands on it!

This detail came from the Saito Radial manual...
