Mine'll have a JetCat P-180RXi so I'm hoping to be able to fly longer with less power output from the engine. We're at 4500' ASL here and in the summer that means about a 25% thrust drop due to density altitude. After I ordered it, I got a call from Bob telling me that was too big an engine for the airframe. I reminded him of the density altitude issues and he seem fine. I saw one fly at the Joe Nall this year with a 180N in it and it was AWESOME!

Thunderbird will be fine with less fuel. Its takes a ton more throttle when you have full ordnance installed.
Oh UGH! Mine's the Thunderbird scheme and I was going to convert one smoke tank to fuel and leave the other one. I mean what the h*ll, a Thunderbird with no smoke????

I am considering converting one of my smoke tanks to fuel also, curious if anyone who has done it would share how they did it?
I would assume take one smoke tank out of smoke system, main fuel line from main tanks after T to vent on smoke tank, then main line from smoke tank to UAT?
Thanks

Just received the BVM F-16 recently and finishing it up. Any recommendations about changing the CG or any other mods? Powering it with the new K-160G.
Thanks.
Thanks.

For CG you can go a very small amount back from the factory CG but I use the factory cg. When you add ordanance the cg moves back so be careful on that. This plane is a hand full with a rear CG and I'm speaking from experience lol.

That K160 will be MORE than enough,, I don't own the BVM (JL), I have a new Gen 2 skymaster, but a friend I fly with has the BV model, with a K140, and it flies fantastic, and looks fantastic. The one thing I can tell you with ABSOLUTE certainty The BV 16 Is CONSIDERABLY lighter than my Skymaster, and in the air it flies light, I would say its probably 10lbs range lighter than my SM ,,I would also say the Skymaster gear has the BV model beat in the strength dept, but Im sure there is a weight penalty on that. I love my SM, but I would not hesitate to jump on a bvm, (JL)

FYI, I have the JL version and have moved the CG 30mm back from the factory position. It is now almost neutral on the elevator inverted, needing a slight touch of down to maintain level flight. Flying with 50mm of travel with 42% expo. Power is a Merlin 140XBL and the jet is super light! Ditto Ronnie regarding 'flies light'...

I have flown 4 different PNP F16s. The best CG is to balance as recommended then add 5 ounces of lead to the nose. Perfect!!!!! The recommended CG will fly it but very pitch sensitive until I added the weight. Also when I added the weight no trim change in the elevator with extra 5 ounces

Is this balance with ordinance on board or clean wing.

Hello.
I have 2 BVM PNP F16. An Alaska and Thunderbird.
The Alaska: K140
The Thunderbird: JetCat P140RXi
More than enough power for my flying field altitude. No power difference between engine brands.
Normal tanks setup. 7min plus for normal flying and spare for reserve, nevertheless I always try to put wheels down at min 7.
Never use more ordnance than the sidewinders on the tip of the wings.
Balance is per BVM manual.
Cheers everyone.

I had to sand/file mine a little to get them all in and to have no gap between the pieces, not too much but some.
I bet you are trying to just get each started and then tighten together? Better that way than one or two tight and trying to add the others.

With everyhing you just mentioned is it worth double the price? Youre saying if I had JL F-16, I cant buy all these extras you explained IF NEEDED from BVM unless I purchased the plane through them?? On another note if one did have a JL F-16 and you showed up at a event how would BVM know the difference between the two if they are the same plane made by the same manufacturer? They would just simply not help?? What has this hobby come to? Either buy my stuff or you wont get ANY help from us?? WTH. Just my 2 cents. But what do I know. Im not bashing BVM cause I think they make a great product when they were producing THEIR own airplanes. Now that they are taking these chinese made models and branding their name on it and doubling the cost I think is rediculous
I disagree Malcom
Wile yes its the same plane when you get it through BVM you also get support that did not exist before. This plane is not perfect and has issues. BVM address those issues where everyone else just sold it with the issues and let the customer deal with it(Global im sure address some of the problems also). To name a few...
1.The stock main landing gear strut springs are way to weak and makes the plane sit wrong. JL dealers did nothing BVM is supplying new ones
2.The ordanance comes with holes drilled way the hell off from the wing holes. JL dealers did nothing BVM is making them use a jig now for the holes.
3.BVM reps have flown it and give you a Confident CG setting along with cards to set the proper throws.
4.BVM reps give you the transmitter programming if your using a DX18 so on the first flight you already have all the roll coupling and other trims done.
5.BVM shows up at the events so you can always get parts to keep you in the air. We had a nose gear problem at FLjets and Dustin himself came over and replaced the gear locking cylinder himself to keep us flying. If you would have gotten it through a JL dealer we would have been grounded the rest of the event and would have to wait who knows how long on a replacement from china.
6. Same as 5. Sean broke his pitot tube at Kentucky jets and that holds the nose cone on. BVM had one in stock so no big deal. No need to wait for months getting one from China.
7. BVM supplied weights to balance the stabs.
That is just to name a few things off the top of my head. You cant put a price on service like that. So please take the negative comments some where else.
