Default Why oh why???

Real quick, I'm in the Navy. Last night was a duty night for me. Meaning I stayed on the ship 24hrs. I sat and thought about R/C Aircraft every chance I got. When I wasn't standing watch, I was reading the same magazine over and over. I've known for a long time now that I'm Addicted to R/C, but why??????
I know guys that love to fish, and play golf, or work on cars. I don't see them as "strung out" on their hobbies as we are. I feel like every time I'm on RCU I'm in the middle of a feeding frenzy on R/C. When you talk to someone about R/C Aircraft they're just "Eh, that sounds alright I guess" but I get on here and WOW everyone is posting like crazy about they're projects and asking questions, and putting up pictures. At the field, we burn sometime a whole friggin gallon of fuel a piece in one day. I gotta know what some of you believe makes this hobby SO Addictive and hard not to think about. It's like being in high school drooling over a girl. I donno, maybe it's me, but I gotta know if anyone else out there is the same and wonders why.

I think it’s a HUGE plot by the R/C industry. As the tobacco industry has been charged with inserting chemicals to make cigarettes more addictive the R/C industry is inserting chemicals into CA that emit mind-altering fumes.

I have other interest (although they are behind flying R/C) and have browsed message boards for those subjects. Those people are just as passionate about their sport/hobby as anybody in R/C.

Well I'm glad I'm not the Only one. The worst part is I'm about a month away from a 6 month deployment on board a ship. Closest I'll get to R/C will probably be a magazine, and maybe a simulator.

I know a guy who is the same way about deer hunting, he is seriously obsessive about it. All summer long he tends to his plots and builds stands and reads mags. Then when hunting season comes, he uses all his vacation time to sit in trees. Some people are just obsessive/compulsive by nature and when they find something that turns them on, its like a whirlwind. I am the same about r/c. WW2 planes are my passion, but i also enjoy cars and scale r/c battleships.

I too am an RCAholic and my name is Warren

Not every one can do what we can it gets in your blood and you can not get it out. You have it or you don't and there is no qure, except nitro and balsa dust, salt water does not help a bit!

the rc industry have got us covered, they spray sheets of balsa with some addictive substance so people who build planes, it makes them buy more and more of it

for ARF's, i reckon its something that they breath in when they open the box lol

or maybe it in the covering for our planes?

It's something the CIA came up with to keeps us locked in our basements avoiding our wives and racking up some serious bills at the hobby shops.

All Wrong Wrong Wrong !
We are all suffering from early gene experimentation. It all started just after WW1 by accident. We can't help it and there is no cure.
To remain sane we must have our apatite for new planes and gear fed or nasty things happen.

I can fly RC Planes cause the voices said so.

It's the Nitro. If I haven't been around a glow engine on nitro for a few days, I start to smell Glow exhaust everywhere. It's a horrible addiction and I reckon there should be a Program set up to help us poor Addicts.

Hmmmmmm......

There's nothing like that giant shot of adrenaline at the exact moment the LG of that brand new scratch built project leave the ground.

Did I mention that at the time I'm so nervous that my knees are knocking and I'm shaking so bad that I couldn't fly strait and level if God himself were helping.

Hi, I'm Jason and I'm an RCholic.

Whatever (taildragger) are you (biplane) talking about (triplane)?

True, I've dabbled (pcm10) in this hobby (helicopter) but, I can (sailplane) quit... anytime (mustang)... I just don't want to (Staggerwing, Pitts S2, SE5a...) right now.

Gotta go, I gotta call the LHS and check if my fix er... fuel cases are in yet, I'm down to one case!.

ps. Anyone know how I can get balsa direct from Ecuador? The middle-men keep cutting it too short.

If you have ever just sat in your shop late at night and watched the ailerons move and the rudder swing and the throttle open and close on your planes , If you have ever sat in your chair and practiced stick control while watching the surfaces respond to inputs ,

YOUR AN RC-AHOLIC

and I know Im not the only one that does that ,LOL

When I was on a ship, at least us rcer's could play with cars and small electrics / small nitros. We had on guy drive off the end of the elevator with his car and have it become a shark toy. I built a lot of stick and tissue models and flew them off the fantail. Gave the Jarheads something to shoot at.

I felt sorry for the avid dear hunters. The Navy wouldn't let them set up dear stands in the hangar deck and kinda frowned at them stalking "prey" in the passage ways.

Hey Scott, I know what you mean about the Navy. I'm on a aircraft carrier, and you'd think they'd be all about some R/C flyin'. Oh No, they fill the hangar deck up with all those planes, that scratches that area. Up on the Flight deck the wind is blowing 30 plus. Ya can't get a break. Oh well, I guess I'll take my simulator on the upcoming cruise, and huddle in the corner with my magazines. I hope I can get access to some RCU while I'm out there

My poor wife and kids have to hear about it all the time........plus I make my kids, or at least the older one, watch the Discovery Wings Channel with me.....he he he. My wife could be asking me a serious question and I'll respond by saying something like "Did you know Doug got a new plane?".....and she still loves me..bless her soul....

Hi, I'm Mike, and I'm an R-C Aholic.....

Given your situation coupled with the new Li-Poly batteries, indoor RC is very rewarding..... I often take a break to fly my hummingbird (indoor heli) in the next (vacant) cubicle here at work.
