Lipo fire...
So...I went to the field today with my foamy F-16 and while flying...the battery fell out (velcro came loose).
We watched as the -16 floated and somersaulted it's self back to earth, and funny as it might be, it landed on it's wheels, completely unscathed and I flew it again a few minutes later.
Anyway...all of a sudden my friend's son yells FIRE and the battery pack (3S2200) went off, cell by cell for about two minutes. It's a great reminder about how these Lipos can cook off...

What's more interesting is that the lipo dropped out of your foamie because you were careless enough not to secure it. If that hit someone....game over mate.

Somehow I knew someone would quickly say that. The tape came off of the pack...nothing more...nothing less.
Lucky for me that I possess the skills and common sense to not fly over peoples heads or near others.

Sorry, I just don't get why its interesting that a lipo would vent when its dropped from a great height onto a hard surface. Seems stunningly obvious to me.

Boy you are really intelligent. Because Bevar didn't say how
it fell and where did it hit. That's why I asked. He's a safe flyer,
so I hadn't all the perspectives. Maybe it was a faulty pack.
An accident can happen to anyone including you, dichit.

It's always worth a reminder how volatile these things can be. I had a 4S 3200mah pack go up for no reason a few months back in my shop.
It was a Turnigy pack for my Habu from Hobby King. I actually had ordered 2 of them. One was dead on arrival, wouldn't even take a charge, the other took a charge, but only lasted about a minute and a half in the Habu. I gave on those batteries (it cost as much to ship them back for an exchange as the batteries cost) and they just sat in the shop.
One of the batteries (the one that wouldn't take a charge at all) decided to go up on it's own sitting on an aluminum transmitter box one day in my shop. I was very lucky as I wasn't in the shop at the time, the aluminum box kept it off of everything else and it was far enough from the wall that nothing else ignited.
I do have another Turnigy pack that a friend ordered and it's been fine, but I'm very skeptical of Lipo batteries and I won't be ordering anything from Hobby King again. It's no surprise that most carriers don't want to transport these things if they can just go up at random like the one in my shop did!

Exactly. The whole point of my post was to remind everyone about how careful we all must be with Lipos. Johnny lost his Denali when a battery being charged went off in the back of his SUV and it burned to the ground. A few weeks ago another friend had a club member's car catch on fire when a Lipo went off during charging in his car too.
We all need to pay close attention to our batteries at all times.
