Alright, I guess I will be the one to start the thread and hopefully it will be a good one.

Right now I have the ZDZ 80 RV single sitting here waiting for the plane to come this winter for the next project.

I would like your peoples opinions who do own this plane how an 80cc will fit and balance.

Also, I know they do the top hinging method which for me I am not very fond of and rather double bevel it. Who else has done this?

Counterbalances on the elevator, how big should they be on the 31%?

Spinner size for this plane?

One last one here is, what is the total weight of this plane with a given engine R-T-F minus fuel... anyone have one flying that could help us out?

I have yet to get an engine, came very close to getting the zdz 80, but the only bloke in the uk that I have ever met that had one, had ignition problems. It is only rumour, I will will deny any knowledge , but on the ZN line website they are advertising a DA 75 coming soon! So I will wait and see, but not knowing a thing about gas engines, it is safest to go with the firm with the best reputation. And wouldn't dream of putting in a converted bush whacker!
My main concern is how to hold the wings and tail on, as the instructions totally skip those parts.
At the moment my 31% is still in the box

Default I'm in

I have a 3w 75RI going into mine and I'll be using a 4.5" tru-turn spinner. I'm hoping to get to work on mine soon. I'm a pattern flyer and this will be my 1st gasser. It's been pretty hard for me to find time to work on it because the pattern stuff has kept me very occupied. Mike

I have the ZDZ 80 and have it because ZDZ/RCShowcase make quality engines. If the guy that had ignition problems was smart he would send the ignition module back and get it replaced.

DA 75 will no doubt be another sweet engine as DA makes top of the line engines and there service is the best I have EVVVVVVER seen. However, that may be a long time until that motor is out and in production.

As for the wing and stab there held on by aluminum tubes, 1 for each and then more then likely an Anti Rotational pin to keep the wings from moving in flight. I would probably have to say go off a Carden planes set-up for the anti rotational pins maybe just smaller but I would have imagined it to be in the instructions. If not ask someone with the 27% or 34% or any of them as they all utilize the same design.

I'm using a ZDZ 60 with a KS Cannister on my 31%. I hope to have it finished in the next month or so. I too did not like the top hinging method and went with double bevel, I have the wings done and am going to work on the Elevators this afternoon.

I'm running a 1/4-20 nylon bolt through the fuse side just ahead of the servo wires to hold the wings on. I put a 3/8 birch plywood block in the root of the wing before I put the root rib on and used a brass threaded insert for the bolt. On the tail I think I'm going to make a new root rib that has tabs on the bottom and put 2 4-40 bolts to bolt them to the fuse sides.

Is anybody going to use the flying wires on the stab as they recommend? I'm going to put a block in the stab and fin just in case I have to but I'm not planning on using them.

Counterbalances......haven't decided how big there going to be yet but I should have that figured out in a couple of hours.

Shortman

I ended up going with 2 3/4" on my counterbalances. I'll try to get some pics up later this evening of them.

Default Nice

Hey Mark I too am a fan of the double bevel. I have the counterbalance on mine going half way. I saw that on the Radiocraft planes and I liked it. If I could ever figure out the piture thing on RCU I would show you. Mike

Mark, could you get some more pictures for us! Of the engine box, inside of the fusealage (servo tray area) with maybe some measurements of the size of the inside area and just some close ups.

Thanks steven

www.troybuiltmodels.com I believe

If not, www.rcsuperstore.com carries all the GraphTec R/C line of carbon fiber parts, just call them and ask

Shortman I don't have my engine box done yet, I'll try to get some close up shots and measurements of the inside of the fuse later.

I have added more stuff and more detail and edited some stuff...

I would highly suggest using at least the carbon fiber wing and stab tubes. The Carbon Fiber wing tubes can support 6,000lb per square inch! 2X stronger then aluminum and nearly 1/2 the weight

I don't have the room for a 40% and besides it will be my own set-up and my personal settings and things I want. Who knows, maybe better then Frazer Briggs as long as I trim it like he can hehe...

Any new updates guys?

I got a couple more questions for those who have this plane...

Canisters: Is there sufficient room to provide a single canister such as the PeFa without serious or any modifications?

Firewall, have any of you guys tried carbon fiber laminate instead of the fiberglass?

Landing gear, I hear its very short and doesn't provide proper clearence

How are the wings attached? Does it provide supplies for it or at all?

Thanks, Steven

Default Couple of things

I think the standard landing gear might be too short but I havn't tested that yet. Also they are really heavy so I think the extra investment into the proper sized CF gears is worthwhile. If anyone knows of the right sized gear to handle a 26" prop I would appreciate it. You really don't get any frills in this kit and a method to attach the wings isn't provided. I built 2 tabs out of the root ribs on each side and they go thru the fuse and screw in with 6/32's. Mike

On the wings I put a hardwood block under the root rib and use a 1/4-20 brass threaded instert to bolt the wings on from inside the fuse, on the tail I am going to make new root ribs with tabs on the bottom to bolt them to the fuse.

I had an 80 and was going to use a KS cannister on it but after looking long and hard at it I decided that I just did not have enough room to use the correct cannister for the 80 and be able to get the correct header length. If you were going with one of the cannisters that RCShowcase sells they are not a tuned setup and would fit easily. I think I will be able to get my 60 and KS Cannister in fine with the correct header length. I'll try to get some photos of my cannister box later.
