Tail skid for Fokker DR1
I have just become a member of this forum. And I hope to find the answer s of some of the things I am wondering about.
First of all. I am currently building a Fokker DR1 1/4 scale kit from Flair. I have just finished the undercarriage wing with working suspension. And now the turn has come to the tail skid. Has anyone build one with suspension, or has anyone got pictures of the real thing/URL adress ?
Hope to see some answers from you guys.

DR1
I'm building one with 114 inch span. I used the same set up as the VK kit I built. The skid is hinged at the bottom of the fuse and part way up there is two dowels one stops the skid and the rear one has the rubber bands attached and hooked to the skid so it flexes very simple

DR1
Re DR1. Ditto with the last guy building the 114" model. I laminated some basswood according to enlarged VK plans 28% up tp 60 in. Span for c/l scale, Fox 78 on throttle, Roberts 3 way bellcrank. Used spring steel from a street sweeper brush underneath the business, end screwed into place exactly where it will contact the ground. That Flair kit is very nice. What color and detail are you going to finish it?

Skid
I`m getting the picture. It would be nice to build something that can be replaced easily if the skid should break . But I guess if you do that you have more repairing to do than just the tailskid .
To see the colourscheme I`m using follow the link below.
I will use the same colourscheme that I am using in a WW1 flightsim called Red Baron 3D. The sim is what made me interrested in WW1 airplanes. I don`t do much flying for the moment, to busy to build my DR1.
The page has a link down on the right corner showing a very nice Albatross build by a Norwegian well known for his bilding skills. He used seventeen different colours ........

Tail skid for Fokker DR1
I have the Flair DR1 , it is some 3years old , great flying plane , & doesn't nose over like the V.K one . The method of tail skid on kit works great , after all this is a way off scale , I.E. the nose length isa way too long , the middle wing has to be cut in coming up to fuse; the ww1 way of u/carriage , main axle going up & down in slots works great . Mine is 13lbs, Enya 120R . Point is the tail skid is ok , UNLESS you are making other changes as I said etc. Mine is Fokker red with black & white stripes on stab . AL

Is that a picture from a replica ?
I can`t see if this skid has a suspension build in. Has it ?.
Where did you find this picture ?
Thank you Ralph.

Nice work Steven.
I will try to make my skid replaceable.
What did you do with the opening when you put the covering on ?

DR-1 tail section
Trond
I got the picture off of the web sight of "Fine Art Models"
when I was looking for extra detail on my 1/4 scale DR-1
That's where I got the Idea for my Hub. I needed a little
weight up front to help balance it out, and I wanted to keep
the cowl short for a more scale appearance, and I hate
adding dead weight. My hub came out to 2.0 oz. just what
I needed. The pictures from Fine Art Models were a real help
I even have an airfoil on my stab, and tail thanks to them.
Here's a picture of my hub.

Tail skid for Fokker DR1
I can see you have put a lot of effort in building your plane.
Since this is my first kit, I won`t be able to add so much scale details as I maybe would.
The only thing I have did so far is correcting the looks of the middle wing, adding working suspension, and now building a tailskid.
I won`t shortened the nose. I`don`t know if the tailskid will add so much weight that it will be a problem balancing the plane.
I hope not. I will use a Super Tiger 2000 for enginge.

DR-1 tail skid
Spoke with a veteran DR-1 builder. He has built many DR-1's and he used a steerable tail skid. Plane looked like it handled very well on the ground. Based on this I think this will be my choice as well.

Tail skid for Fokker DR1
If I build a steerable tailskid, do I have to add a wheel to it to make it function ?
It would be nice of a picture showing this setup. Has anyone got a link ?
