Not much clearence. I land my X-400 in the grass all the time though. The blades have more than enough power to push (short) grass out of the way, it just means your tail blades and vertical fan get rather messy after a few takeoffs and landings in it.

You can also add spacers between the frame and rear landing gear mount. This will tilt
the tail boom up.

Never had a problem taking off in grass!!! Just make sure you occsaionally inspect for blades of grass getting stuck in the tail workings!

Default RE: Trex on Grass

I live in AZ & was landing on dirt with patches of grass one piece( a strand of dried grass) got stuck in the rudder & blocked the servo movement. I noticed the problem when slowly powering up the eng before I tried to take off & noticed the odd movement(wag with power) in the tail . If I would have just flew it could have been real bad.The next day I flew in a field of taller grass taking off from the sidewalk was about 50 feet from the landing pad & 30 feet up when my battery was at it's end the tail wags to tell me ( don't know why) anyway I landed fast & somewhat hard, the grass saved me I broke the left rear part of the landing gear witch I fixed with glue no problem. other then that highgrass over 3in will hit the tail rotor thin grass would be fine but thick not so good. Oh I love my T-rex Hope this info is help full I have only flown like 11 times in my life now & it flys great.[8D] Splamy
