Default Small C/L Engines?

How many small sized (.049,.09 sized or so) C/L engine companys are out there besides Cox and Norvel? I'm not a big lover of Norvel, I have one of those Lite Machines Heli's with a Norvel .06 on it and I could never keep the thing from over heating. It would fly for like 2 minuts then loose power.
Are Norvel C/L engines any better?

There are quite a few small C/L diesels available, try one, very economical to run and the fuel smells great!............John

25 I have a LMH and the norvel .061 you have in the heli is a world apart from the airplane engine,,I do know what you mean , while I was trying to learn to hover once I had it skimming around the ground and went to full throttle to take off and suddenly realized I was already at full throttle!..the .074 is an absolute jewel of an engine, in fact I put the .074 heli engine in my LMH and it has 8 shims in it for breakin and as far as I know ( a friend borrowed it) it still does,,its rare you hear a bad word about any norvel engine in this forum,,we do have a couple of hardcore high rpms at any cost guys that have burned 1 or 2 up ,,but any regular sunday flyer would tell you to buy one..the cox line seems destined to dry up so I wouldnt invest anything in one of them...hth..Rog

In the USA:

For Doctor Diesel (Eric Clutton) tty: http://www.cafes.net/doctordiesel/

For Carlson's Engine Imports (Ed Carlson) try: http://www.carlsonengineimports.net/index.shtml

For diesel head conversions, try MECOA (RJL) or Davis Diesel Development (DDD)

Outside the USA, you might try: Just Engines or PAW

How 'bout machining your own diesel engine. I have read some articles about them but never took an interest. I never thought I would need a different type of engine, just parts[:'(]

While I'm on the subject of homemade, who has built a complete engine from chunks of aluminum and steel? Whats the feasability of it?

Thanks in advance

Its kinda strange but its just my luck that just as I get into 1/2A flying, Cox goes out of business. Here in Canada I don't see too many model suppliers carrying diesel engines or diesel model fuels.

flyinrog:
I had thought about going to the .07 Norvel in my LMH, but someone tolled me that it was not worth it because the .07 was not much better. But after hearing your luck maybe I'll give it a try. I do like the little heli, just want to fly it for more then 2 minuts. Can I just buy the .07 engine or do I have to get some kind of conversion kit?

You need the heli version .074., LMH will tell you that you need a new crutch but I just enlarged the motor mount in mine,,the reason I used so many shims is because there have been reports of the con rod breaking on new engines...Rog

Yes I too heared the same thing about the rods breaking, but you have a good idea by keeping th compression low. I think I'll give it a try.
