What engine for Extra 330S 3D E-Performance
Bought this plane yesterday and can't decide what engine to put on it. I have a rimfire 35-30-950 that I can use but I'm considering a rimfire 35-30-1250 or eflite 480. Any thoughts?

I don't see many using the Rimfire motors. But they interest me. I'd like to ask how you like them? So far I have only Hackers but plan on trying out the Rimfires just because I want to see how they perform or last.
As far as what motor to use, start with the light one and see how the system responds. Ie. how much heat is being generated. If heat isn't being produced above normal opperating temps then thats the best choice. Then if you need more power or some part is over heating switch to the larger motor.
An under powered motor will overheat the batteries as quick as trying to run too large of a motor.
There's a great thread going now called E power 101 at Flying Cir*us. Lost of good stuff getting posted there.

I have this plane and am running a Scorpion 3008 on it. This is the same weight as a Park 480 but is more powerful. I might add it's also a good bit cheaper. You can get it for around $45. Rimfire motors aren't bad. The 35-30-1250 is probably a better match for that plane, but the 950 would probably work.

I would stay away from the 950, go with the 1250kv motor, deffinatly has the power needed for this airframe. I have had 3 extra 330s (electrifly) and was a great mach.

I just got back from maidening my Goldberg E-Yak 40" span, ready to fly weight of 26 oz without the battery. I am useing the rim fire 35 30 1250 amd it hauls this plane around very well with plenty of power to go vertical pulling out of ahover, using a 10/7 APC e-prop. At end of flight that was about 10 min long motor was warm but not hot as was the 2200 mah battery. Your Extra and my Yak are probaly very close in size and weight.
