Default magic isn't rudder responsive

I have a new Magic and I have the pull pull rudder with all the travel I can get. With the tiny fin and monster rudder I figured it would jump on rudder. When I hover or try to torque roll it takes all the rudder travel and it barely mover. I have a Thunder tiger 46 with a Mac's muffler- black- and the plane weighs 4 lb. 4 oz. I have a old Futaba 5101 servo on rudder and I sealed the rudder with Ultra cote. I am balanced att the suggested point and it flies hands off inverted. I also have an APC 12.25 3.75 prop on it. I think that is the size. It is the only one in that size area. What am I doing wrong? All of the other planes I have flown with monster rudder travel and size wiggle back and forth in a hover with just a little bit of movement.

Default Magic rudder

I have seen this complaint in other posts. You must try to get the recomended throws for the rudder as this is the key. If you set the number correctly you shouldn't have any problems. The other thing you might try is moving the cg. aft. With the engine you have you must have the cg fwd.

I have a new one also same prop and a enya 45. the rudder moves a ton and fast with MG225 servo .14 seconds. The rudder just does not seem to work at all.

Default Rudder

Bevus and Big Joe,
Try moving the cg back is my first guess. I don't know what you base your experience on. Now I haven't tried knife edge loops with mine, and I 'm not sure it will do them but I will give it a try. The rudder works fine in the hover.

Default what about mixing

Are you using any mixing. my plane seems to flop out of hover like a stall even with max rudder throw . I have unlimited vertical power as well ??

What about your ailerons are they level with the wing tip ??

Default Rudder

I am running a Webra .32 with a APC 10x4 at 15,800 plenty of verticle performance. 4 lbs 1 oz.
I am not using any mixing for hover. The ailerons match the wing tips in neutral position.

The rudder does have very little authority. For hovering try a Morris Knife, tons easier to hover!!

Default magic isn't rudder responsive

Joe:

I've watched a friend fly his the last two weekends and my idea
is that the largest area of the rudder is 3" above the horz. stab.
In a hover mode, the wing and bottom of stab is washing air
away from the rudder. The Caps and Edges must have a good
thing with their rudder location.
A similar thing happened with elevator control on my T-Tail high
start gliders, that the wing would wash air away from the elev.
during the climb-out.
I didn't see the other threads. What was their solution ?

If you ask me this thing for me is a peace of cake to hover.

Here is a video of me and my E-magic
It has a mega 22/20/2, 6 to 1 gear ratio and 18-10 prop and 2 six cell 3000 paks.

Yes you are right, I am using the same difflection down in my flaps as i am in up in my elivator and vise versa. This mix helps it in loops, it makes them tight, and ween you want to slow down you just wigal the eliv. .

Default magic isn't rudder responsive

I got almost 90degree in mine rudder with a Fut 9404 servo mixing flap to ele 140% both ways all the time because it seems to help keep the plane from torquing as bad. I am running one of the new OS 50 2stroke on mine with a mac 2 piece header and tuned pipe with a "wood" 12x4 turning right at 16000 on the ground. Balanced mine were it was still a little tail heave with a full tank of fuel to help with the hovering & also helps loop tighter. Some of the guys I fly with are running "wood" 11x4 props on theirs had having good luck. To keep from having to add as much weight to the tail get your bat in behind the servo tray.
Really good plane for the price I got two of them.
There is not anything a little extra power will not help.

Default rudder

I've had a couple Magics. I found that the specified CG is way too far forward. I wound up at 140mm behind the leading edge.
