This is a SIG LT-40 that I recently recieved. I am starting this thread as a way to document the building process for anyone that may need help in the process. Bubbagates has offered to help me with the posting process.
Checking thing's out.

Yes you should at least glass the bottom of the wing joint.
My LT 40 wing has been through some major crashes with little or no damage. I would also reinforce the firewall. And put a lot of rubber bands around that big wing.
The LT 40 is a wonderful trainer. When you learn to fly it inverted it is time for your second plane.

No the spare looked ok to me I think it would be plenty strong. I just epoxied good and didn't think anything about it. This is my first plane so I just put it together. I am alittle worried about the epoxy as it was still alittle tackey yesterday may it's suppose to be alittle tackey but I wouldn't think so.

If you really want to see if it is time to move up, try a knife edge pass with it. If you can hold that and hold it steady it is time. Inverted is no cake walk either as Bob said. In either case the plane will fight hard to roll back upright [:@]
Bob,
The one I had and the one that this post is about are bolt on wings. I beleive the kits use the rubber bands and the ARF uses bolts but I could be wrong. I actually did not build the plane in this post but I did help the member get the posts cleaned up. I will say this, looks prett darn good for his first time.

Mike,
You may not have used enough hardener. A 50/50 mix is the usual amount. Give it time, it will dry and be alright. Glassing the center is fine and will hold upp well but it really is not needed. I beat my 40 to death and even did a cartwheel from wingtip to wingtip when I got stupid and pulled it vertical right after takeoff. [:@] I just fixed the womgtips and recovered the who;e wing and flew it well over 100 flights. I even converted it to a taildragger and used it for flying in the snow with skis
Be back, we have about 6 inches of snow right now and i's still coming. We have already went past the forecast by 2 inches [&:]. Time to get the snow blower out [:@]

I'd like to turn mine into a tail dragger into 2 or 3 months. I want to practice landings as I think they look cool coming in to land and taking off.

The early LT40 ARF's had rubber band wings. I have a couple. My newest was bought in 2001
They've changed them in the last two or three years. The 1st one I noticed with the bolt ons was last year this time.
It was a great and much welcome change.
The bolt ons have the higher front windshield block.
Enjoy,
Jim

My first flight lasted about 15 to 20 seconds and I was headed straight down then I handed the controls back to Bill and he pulled it out of the death dive I had put it in and landed the LT. My rudder came lose but my plane is in one piece.
The Saito 56 perred like a kitten, started easy as pie and sounded better that any plane there except for one the name started with an M and was a 1.36cc Futana airplane but at the end of the day mine sounded better than his because he nosed into the ground and another beginner flew his Alpha 40 into the trees it went in in one piece and came back in about 100 pieces. I still don't have my BUDDY BOX it'll be March 1st but I'm going back tommorrow and Bill's gonna bring his buddy box so I'll have a longer flight time tommorrow.
