Default Quick Charger For NiMh Receiver Batteries

I usually overnight charge my receiver / trans. batteries but I am looking for an occasional Quick Field Charger for 1100 - 2000 mah 5 cell NiMh receiver batteries. I was looking at the Hobbico Quick Field Charger Mark 2. Does this seem like a good choice ? Is it realiable and safe to use ?

The reason I picked this one is that I have a $40.00 off # from Towers that means I will only pay $10.00 for it.

I have no doubt that it is a very nice charger but I want one that will charge 2 - receiver packs at one time and I would never bother to charge my trans. at the field. I upgraded the battery in my trans. and it is good for at least 10 flights and thats more than this old guy is good for.

I cooked 2 good ni-mh packs w/ that Hobbico battery toaster. It's ability to sense peak on ni-mh was not very good. I have the Sirius charger now and it is perfect. Lots more $$ but works great. You can charge 2 rx packs by the way. The tx side can be fitted w/ a receiver plug and will charge an rx pack. Sirius will tell you that it's ok to do as well and I think their instructions even mention doing just that.

Here's the adapter UAL was talking about:
http://www.siriuselectronics.com/ind...5bc5fd398f8ed2
I have one of the Hobbico Fast Field Charger MKII's as well.
I have it because it was a quick way to get a LiPo charger.
I am not real satisfied with it.
I'm saving my pennies for a Serius LiPo charger as well.
You can buy the Sirius line for a little less at
http://www.chiefaircraft.com/cgi-bin...els/Model.html
Free shipping too.

OK, OK, OK, you've convinced me I'm going to buy the Sirius. Now all I have to do is make up my mine either the Pro Plus or the Quad charger. I'll sleep on it and order tomorrow.

Thanks guys .................... I can't believe I went from spending $10.00 to $150.00 [X(][X(][X(]

The only one I have is the Pro Plus.
I can not tell you how happy I am with it.
I can tell you I now have a Rubbermaid tub full of my old chargers.

Laryboy,
What!?!?!?!?!?!!?
You have no idea what you're talking about![sm=bananahead.gif]
Here's a picture of my ProPlus charging my Futaba 9CAP.
The tx is unaltered as received from Tower this summer.
Don, if you have any questions or doubts call Peak Electronics themselves.
Don't listen to folks that don't have one or know nothing about them.
Good luck!

Q: Can I use my SIRIUS CHARGE Pro Series at home without a 12volt battery?
A: Yes. You will need a 12 volt DC power supply that can supply at least 1.5 Amps. We sell an AC wall adapter that is perfect for this. Click here to see it.
Q: I have a transmitter with batteries larger than 1000mAh. Can SIRIUS CHARGE Pro Series charge them?
A: Yes it can. "1000mAh" describes the maximum amount the charger will deliver per charge cycle, NOT the battery size. Since the charger only needs to replace the energy used (and we usually don\'t run our batteries completely dead), 1000mAh is usually enough. If in doubt, simply charge twice. The computer will shut off the fast charge when the battery is full, regardless of when that occurs.
Q: I\'ve heard that fast charging is not good for batteries, especially long term.
A: That is not true. It was shown 30 years ago by D. M. MacArthur that fast charging actually increases charge acceptance. However, conventional fast chargers tend to ruin batteries by overcharging, and by causing excessive temperature and pressure buildup. The new technology used in SIRIUS CHARGE solves these problems: Peak Predictor tm eliminates overcharge, and RPCtm eliminates temperature and pressure buildup.
Q: My SIRIUS CHARGE will not work with my Futaba transmitter. Why?
A: There is a diode in the charging circuit of most Futaba FM and PCM transmitters (Futaba AM transmitters do not have a diode). This diode prevents SIRIUS CHARGE from detecting the transmitter battery and turning itself on. The diode is very easy to defeat, and will not affect operation of the transmitter. If you would like to see how to do it, click here.
By the way, BEWARE of fast chargers that claim to work through a diode. It is impossible to do proper peak detection through a diode, due to the diode voltage drop changing drastically with temperature and current. Your batteries are at risk!
Q: I purchased a Smart Charge you made for Ace, and it broke. Can you fix it?
A: No, we can not. We never built any chargers for Ace. We only licensed Ace to build Smart Charge. They changed the design (without our approval), and changed some of the components. We do not stock those components. In addition, there is no fix for performance problems caused by their redesign.
Q: Can I charge Nickle Metal Hydride batteries with the Pro Series?
A: Yes, The Sirius Charge line of chargers are the only SAFE FAST chargers for NiMH cells. The Pro Series is limited to 250 to 1200 mAh NiMH cells, The Pro Plus "Upgrade" allows the Pro Series to charge 500 to 3000 mAh NiMH cells.

Laryboy,
In case you forgot here is what you said:
<<it will not charge a futaba xmitter >>
I have a Futaba transmitter and it charges it without modification.
I have also used the ProPlus on my old Futaba AM "G" Series, Futaba 8SGAP and 9VAP.
You are wrong.
Besides, Don was looking for a charger that will do two Rx packs at a time.
The Pro Plus will do that...something that I am sure not even you will refute.
I have both the Hobbico and Sirius and have given my honest opinion.
You can keep arguing if you want.
I have never understood why you type of RCU poster insists on throwing hand grenades in to these discussions.
I guess it makes you feel important.

If your talking about the fact that I have a JR radio I was smart enough to order the adapter even though I probably will very seldom use it to charge my trans.

All I wanted was a bit of advice I didn't mean to start a war. I'm happy and that's all that matters to me.
