Default Thunder Tiger Pro 46

What size engine mounting screws should I use for a Thunder Tiger Pro 46? Will 4-40 work or 6-32 or neither? I do not want to drill the holes out on the engine.

Thank you.

Also, the 3 mm machine screws which come with almost all ARFs these days.

I would use 6-32 for a .46.

Hi!
I use 3mm Allen head (Black variety) screws. Or self tapping screw if mounted in a plastic "Dave Brown" mount (Use it in my Q-500 racers )

Use the 6-32 if you are in the US and avoid the metrics like the plague, here is why: shoud you ever loose or need one away from the bench, at the field or an event away from home a replacement can often just be found by a stroll down the flightline if not in your own junk box. Also hundreds of miles from home at an event if necessary a replacement can be found in any Podunk hardware outlet but not the metrics.

If using plastic mounts I do often use all the way up to nineties the self tapping screws included with every Dave Brown mount as Jaka suggested. The self tapper size for the 46 listed right on the label and included with that size mount is #4 by 5/8 long self tapper.

If I remember correctly, a 6-32 will require drilling out the bosses in the engine... I've had a few TT-Pro 46's and love them. I have always mounted my .46's with 4-40 machine screws. IMHO, you'll be fine. I think that the 3mm will also fit without having to drill out the engine crankcase.

I also use a lock nut (the one with the nylon insert) with a washer and lock washer. THis way, if the nut happens to vibrate loose, it won't fall off the bolt and will help to keep your engine mounted.

Just my $.02

I use 4-40 socket head cap screws. Never had one fail. I have had motor mounts break in crashes, but never the screws.
