I think if NASCAR can generate the money it does, I don't see why RC can't. Someone get a RC pylon race covered on Spike TV, get it sponsored by a beer company, and your set. You will of course need on board cameras, and lots of flashy graphics. Otherwise it'll be like watching aerial hockey. The competitions will grow and expand, and you'll see more prize money, and more competitors. The technology is growing fast, and its getting cheaper.

ive known several people that finance their hobby by building/finishing models for others. that is, they get $$ or hardware /kits in exchange for skilled labor.

Side note, of some relation. There was a TV commercial, with Damon Wayans, and he's with his kid flying a model rocket. The rocket hits the car, and the car blows up. Thats the kinda exaggeration that may be needed to get the general public to watch.
