Alot of that descision would be based on what you want out of the hobby and where you are headed.
I want to fly warbirds so low wing tail dragger is the way for me to go.
I chose the SIG 4 Star 60 as my second plane.

I think one of the best 2nd planes out there is the Sig Midstar.
Its a good flyer. Its rugged enough to take the hard treatment
your 2nd plane is going to take. And its aerobatic enough to
hold your interest for a long time.

This is a plane you can learn to FLY on. You really dont
learn to fly with a trainer. You usually only learn how not
to crash.

My second plane was a World Models T-34 Mentor, it was goooood [8D] ... untill a faulty receiver crystal did its thing

With a superTigre G51, 12x4 APC prop, almost unlimited vertical, aerobatic and "fast", nice hot landings too

I would recomend a sig 4* 120 i have flown the 60 and yes it is a great plane the 120 is an awsome plane. I have just moved into a 120 from an lt-40. I prefer the flight charicteristics of the 120 over the lt-40. it has a lot of everything. power, big wing, fast flight, slooow flight, great areobatics. I feel the 120 is sort of a forgotten plane. Maybe because you have to actually build it instead of an arf??? I know that everyone has there own oppinion this is just mine. I know I love my 4 star 120
