It was definitely our pleasure to get the pictures up. But rest assured this is not all we will be doing. We will have a full write up of Top Gun with tons of pictures and videos of the entire event. It's going to take a little bit of time for us to go through it all, we have over 20 hours of video footage and over 8,000 pictures to sort through!!!! We'll let everybody know when the full article is up and ready.

Did anybody get any pics or video of the owner of Comp Arf's jet going in after some major flutter problem then had no control?
Congrads to all the winners at TopGun 09. I had a good time and hope ya'll enjoyed the combat demos.

Our local hobby shop owner competes every year, great builder. This year he presented a 1/3 Stearman with a Moki 250 up front. Not sure how he faired.

The A-4 crashed during the Noon Demo Show. Unfortunately I was coming back from the porta-potties when it happened. I heard the flutter and saw it going down, but didn't see it hit because of the vendor tents in my way.

Yeah, I didn't get to see what was fluttering on the A-4 but I was sitting under the tent, heard it and then ran out only to see the jet going up at a 45, then hammer head over going down at a 45 with what looked to be like the pilot had no control over it. The jet disinigrated on impact just like how a real jet would just no fire or flames. This crash wasn't your typical jet crash where the jet got cracked up, this jet disinigrated
I just hope some one got some video of that thing going in!

Good chance we will bring it back next year but re-done as an FB-111 with a new wing, both longer and with a bit more lift. We could use a bit more "slow flight" capability on the model.
Cheers

Great coverage! Enjoyed meeting you at the event. Fantastic shot of my Zero. Actually landed from that position and taxied back.
I had a throttle arm problem and could not get the idle down. Changed the carb for flight 3, scored a 93.3 and made the cut!

Most of the video was great! I would like to see the expression on the faces of some of the people that are flying, or better yet ,,the expressions on the faces of the wifes, whos husband just ditched a 20k $$$$ jet, and a follow up storie ,,,"Are They Still Married"!!! All-and-All,, Great Job Guy's ,,,KEEP THOUGH'S CAMARAS ROLLING,,,,JUST NOT ON ME!

We're a week away from Top Gun 2009. Top Gun will be held at the Lakeland-Linder Airport in Lakeland, Fl. More information on the event can be found on [link=http://www.franktiano.com]Frank Tiano's website[/link].
When it comes to scale aircraft Top Gun is THE place to be as the best modelers in the world come together to compete for the Top Gun Trophy. The best way to see Top Gun is to be there yourself to take in the event. If anybody is within traveling distance of Lakeland we encourage you to make the trip to take in the event first hand. Frank Tiano is a true showman and knows how to entertain the spectators at any event. However, if you can't be on hand at Top Gun RCU is dedicated to giving coverage that will be the next best thing to being there. In 2009 RCU has raised the bar on event coverage and will bring the best coverage of any media outlet in the hobby. RCU members Barracuda Hockey and myself will be onsite covering this event for RCU. We will be posted daily pictures from the event here in this thread, and we will be posting full coverage of Top Gun in the [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine]RCU Magazine[/link] .
Hopefully we'll see everybody at Top Gun next week!!

Frank Tiano continues to re-invent this event and as, such Pilots come from every continent because it is the best scale event in the world.
Looks like the scoring system is working pretty well. There was a mixture of plane types that won each class. Two jets - The magnificent F-16 in Team entered by Graeme Mears and David Shulman and Ryan Haldinwanger won sportsman with a F9F Panther. Then Greg Hahn won with a twin B-25 in his class and the crop dusting Thrush by David Hays won Mr Top Gun. You could not ask for a better variety of winning planes.
There was no charges for spectators this year for pit passes.
From the beginning, Frank has wanted this to be a social event along with a world class competition and he continues to achieve that goal as well. The camaraderie amongst the participants leads to long lasting friendships both on and off the field. The support that many of the wives show during this event is impressive. Many of the wives actually participate by helping with the planes and calling for their husbands.
With all of the ARF planes in the world, Frank continues to reward the designer, builders, painters with an event to reward their skills. Guys like Mike Selby just never stop amazing us with such unusual , one off, aircraft.
I think this years TG was one of the best ever. Kind of HOT, but very little wind , fantastic planes flown by some of the best pilots in the world.
This event and a few others like it in the country draws new people into our hobby and this is why TG continues to be supported by both the RC media and the suppliers.

The pictures posted were great, the weather was great (and hot) but I was disappointed by the lack of vendors. There's only so many servo extensions one needs. What happened to the big vendor display areas from the likes of Chief, Troy Built, etc., etc.? This is the sixth or seventh Top Gun I've attended and I thought the half-time show on Saturday was a little weak, except for the obligatory explosion that marks the "model sound barrier" being broken which makes the faint at heart jump! What happened to the bleachers? Does anyone know the best way to remove deeply embedded love bugs from the front of my SUV? :-)

Fantastic photos of some fantastic planes. Enjoyed by all who could not attend. I have one puzzling question however. In post 5 there is a Russian YAK? with no pilot in the in flight shot. In Post 9 what appers to be the same plane has a pilot. Do some remove the pilot for flight? I was under the impression that pilot figures were mandatory for Top Gun.
