I showed my friends how the single wing plane flies in my basement. They all liked it and are going to put better electronics in it. My son bought two and using a RFFS receiver, added an elevator actuator.( about 25 grams AUW ) It did pretty good but still needs landing gear and a little work. I added 5 grams onto my stock plane just to see if it still flew ok. It still flew fine in the basement,( maybe better due to better CG.? ) We will be pylon racing these planes soon!!

ok so i got mine and it swerved right non stop so i cut the airfoils and added paperclips to keep them in place. But now it flies awkwardly with its nose up slowly going forward and when i tap the rudder it dives to the ground. Does this mean i should add nose weight?

Finally got about 2 minutes to try this plane out. Flys well and can see
the possible mod potential.
I can understand the problem some are having with turning the plane
and having it nose dive. Standing on the stick with full throttle will quickly
send it into a turn dive. There's no gradual movement- just a slap/slap
of the rudder.
Quick flicks of the stick can avoid this or you can glue small blocks of
1/16" balsa or foam to the bottom of the tail fin to limit the rudder throw.
By limiting the radius of rudder the turns will be wider but you can now relax
the stick a bit.

A longer, lighter wing with more dihedral might work better.
Should keep the nose up with the tight turns... weather won't let
me try noth'in!

well that didnt take you long, neurotex! did you mount the wing to the existing foam wing, or did you remove it? with all that extra lift, that thing will really soar. even in stock form with a good performing SW, it'll hang in the breeze. i hope you put some nose weight on it or you'll be doin backflips

[sm=71_71.gif] don't want that...
Nope, the wing is just waiting for some good weather and then I'll chop
the stock foam wing off completely. This wing has been on more planes,
starting with a rubber powered stick, a FF electric, several AA conversions
and now will end up planted on the SingleWing. It's a solid design, who ever
came up with it- flys well whatever it's stuck to.

Anything new on these little planes? I have 2 coming in tomorrow. I must say, me and my X-acto find it hard to wait even 24 hours....

I picked up one of these about a week or so ago. It's definately light in the front in stock form. I took a penny and stuck it on the cowl between the top and the foam and flew it. It calmed the plane down a whole lot, kind of flew like an AA on steroids. Lots faster than an AA but not as twitchy as a stock SW. I had a light breeze today and I kept flying it into the window. It didn't take long to get it up at least 150 feet or so, at least that's what it looked like. It was so high I couldn't really tell which was it going. Backed off the throttle and it just hung up there floating. Lots of fun to fly. Hit the rudder and spiraled it back down and then climbed back up again one more time before the battery ran down..

I used a RFFS and added another actuator for an elevator. The actuators are too weak and it won't turn like I want it to. It is much better to fly outside but it won't be a good basement racer[]

SW with foam wing. 13.8" wingspan. Good flyer.

SW with Arrow style balsa & tissue raised wing. Wingspan 19".
Foam stab lengthened the palne by 1". Plenty of climb and very stable.
Turns are smooth and sharp and still capable of managing a nose dive.

a 500mah cell would be a bit oversized. if you've got an aero ace, its battery is a perfect fit and will give 10+ minutes of flying time.

since there's no LVC on the RX you'll have to watch your voltage on the cell, you'll notice when its time to land as the motor will lose power quickly. once it gets to that point, its time to recharge. if you've got a multimeter, check the voltage, as long as its not below 2.8v it'll be fine.

also, since the 130mah cell is much lighter than the NiMH pack, the CG will be even further back. it may take some added weight or shifting of the parts inside to get the CG back to normal.

yep, the nimh pack comes in at 8.7 grams. the AA 130mah cell comes in at 3.7 with some micro connectors installed.

Default RE: new Silverlit plane at TRU

I was having a ton of fun with my new Silverlit Single Wing plane until I crashed it straight into a park bench. Ever since that crash the propeller makes a ton of noise. When I rotate the propeller manually, i.e. slowly by hand, I can feel the motor stick at the same point in the rotation. It feels like it hits a bump at every 360*. This sticking or grabbing causes additional resistance which reduces the plane's speed and maneuverability. I tried to remove the motor from the plane to get a closer look but it seems glued to the fuselage even after unscrewing the underside . Does anyone have any suggestions about how I might be able to repair the motor? Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.
