Default Castle HV-85 settings help needed

I just purchased a Castle HV-85 to try out with my Hacker C50 and I have questions regarding the following settings:

Setting 3: I don’t understand how the breaking works. From what I’ve heard on this forum there breaking that slows the prop speed for down-lines, but I can’t tell which settings cause the prop to come to a full stop and which will apply the breaking we need in pattern.

Setting 4: What throttle setting should I use?

Setting 5: What timing? I assume Low advance timing (option 3) since the Hacker motors use 0 to 5 degrees.

Setting 7: Soft start setting? I assume option 2, Soft Start.

Setting 8 PWM Switch Rate: 13khz?

Thanks for your assistance,
Keith B

First off, I found 1.52 software has a startup problem with the c50. Don't know if it fixed the brake problem.
1.51 runs good, but if you use the brake function, it's really bad, thought it was gonna rip out the motor. If I wasn't using the brake this is the software I'd run. It's very smooth.
I use 1.23. Brake function works well. Startup is good, though a little abrupt some times.

Brakes set through the software, you'll need a castle link. Mines set at 5% now, you'll have to experiment to find the setting you like. Ramp and delay take your pick, doesn't really affect it to much. If you set the brake to 100% it will stop, 0% or off is no brake.

You can use either throttle setting, fixed gives you more consistant throttle setup, but auto works well.

I've used low advance and standard. It'll run well either way.

I set it to the softest start available.

13khz is the lowest you can go, and is what I use.

Thanks for the info RM, I really appreciate it.

I've already purchased the Castle Link cable but I haven't hooked it up to the ESC yet because I still have to solder the battery leads.

Where does one find the older versions of the firmware?

Thanks,
Keith B

It will be there when you download the lastest version.

I just tried running the Castle HV-85 with my Standard Hacker (with a prop), and it started doing the prop osculating back and forth thing (POP, POP, POP...).

I tried switching one of the three wires going to the motor, changing the direction in the controller from forward to reverse and upgraded the controller firmware from 1.23 to 1.51, none of these corrected the problem.

Prior to doing this I tested the controller on my C50 Comp without a prop and it turned the motor just fine.

And recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Keith B

Try redoing your solder connections. I've never had one fail to start and I have quite a few flights on them.

RM,

You da man! It was one of the solder joints between the motor and ESC.

I use bullet connectors and one of the ones on the motor side had gotten loose during the installation of the HV85.

Thanks for the help!

Keith
