Default Walkera -New Camera

Hello I am flying a Walkera 05-3 counter rotaing blade helicopter. When I bought it online I purchased a small camera with sound, can anybody tell me if I can hook it up to the li-poly battery? I thought that was why it was offered at the same time as the helicopter. [img][/img]

Most of those little cameras run at 9v. It might work at 7.4 (2S LiPo) but 11.1 might be a bit high. In any case, you will probably want to isolate the camera from the flight battery since the ESC used to power the motors creates a ton of high frequency noise. I have used linear regulators, simple diode/capacitor filters and now use a switched mode BEC card to turn 11.1v (3S) to 5v for my system. You will be better off with an indepenant supply in most cases, they sell low capacity NiMh 9v batteries (8.4 really, in a 9v battery case) and they work well and don't weight much. I have a 150mah that I used for some tests on my Blade CP but I ended up going with the BEC regulator.

Did your camera come with specifications?

Thanks steve for the message, I think I will try and use the camera and battery as is. Or try a li-poly like you sugested. Do I try and balance the battery in the middle ? Thanks Scott.

Yes, just try to keep the heli balanced as best you can. I put my transmitter and converter in the front and my camera in the back and the result is reasonable balance. I just lift the heli by the fly bar in both axis's and make sure it stays roughly balanced. Make sure the camera can handle whatever voltage you provide.

RC-Expert.com has a special step-down adapter for 11.1V battery to use with 1.2/2.4Ghz Cam. It's $15.00 Here is the page that it's on... [link=http://rc-expert.com/product-upgrade.php?pid=84] the site is very slow but it works... I'll send a pic too...

IF I were you I'd be worrying about weight at the moment, your motors may not take well to the extra strain. Also, you can use three of those button cell lithium batterys which is supposed to work great (9v) and last for a few hours. That would weight just as much or less than using a power adapter, plus, your helicopters electric wavering can't affect the preformance of the camera, which, would make it work much better.

That sounds like a good solution for the 9v cameras. It is always best to use an indepenant power supply if you can. I am stuck with a regulator since I need 5v (I guess I could use 4.8 with NiMh or NiCd cells). My Blade CP handles the weight of my setup fine (around 2oz total). I have a 200mw transmitter, a power converter and the KX-141 camera. Here is a video I took today (onboard in front of the house).

I see you like you're CO-axil heli's! who flies all those? or did you find a way to "syc hover" them?

I have been flying the Co Co Lamas and sold one to my brother in law. The Walkera is a few bucks more but is slightly stronger I think because it is more like rubber. The Co Co lama is quieter and seems to rotate with full trim, so you have to feather the stick. But they are pretty fun to fly I think for the $.
