I'd like to add an EDF to my fleet. I like the size and looks of both of these. What are the pros and cons between the two? One is foam (Mirage) and the other ply/balsa (FA-18). Why should I pick one over the other?

I will have to put my vote in for the HET-RC FA-18. The model cannot be beat for the price and will be the best investment you ever made. The performance and build up is astounding. Also, the wing profile is super thin, yet very strong...this means lower drag and a faster model. All balsa construction allows you to repair it easily, which is the case with all balsa kits. Foam kits have a tendancy to deform in this case, which isn't easily fixed. Balsa models are always one step above foam and one step above balsa would be the fiberglass models. Moreover, you can readily buy spare parts for it such as wings, stabs, canopies and nosecones.
The Kamdax is a unique setup, where the FA-18 runs on the very popular Minifan 480. The electric setup is general very nice, with no clean up , tune up or leaking/starting problems to worry about, so you made a good choice there. Also, if you have never flown a delta wing, you need to know they do fly much different than conventional aircraft. Control surfaces are more sensitive and you need to watch your turns as speed bleeds off quickly. I have a couple different Delta wings and am speaking from experience.
With a Mega 16-15-2 motor, 40 - 45amp ESC and a 3S2P lipo pack, the FA-18 model becomes a real animal, with speeds around 70- 85mph possible. Step it up with an even better 600+watt power plant and it will burn the skies. In addition, there have been several mods posted just for this bird with upgrades like landing gear add, beefing it up, etc...it's a good investment.
