RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
lmk2-Nice weathering to the A-10. Looks cool! Are you flying it? I put 3 flights (10 minutes each) on my Gray Camo "Flipper" A-10 tonight. It looks so cool in the air. I'm going to see if my daughter can take a few pictures of it in the air, next time out.

Yes, I'm flying it. I get 8-10 min out of it. Not fast by any means, but I got plently of fast planes. Probably one of the most popular for looky loos besides my paraplane. People love that one! Different wheels made a lot of difference on landing. I just keep the power on and bring it in nice and steady. The gun is from a GI Joe in my sons tub of toys!

I have two, new, sealed in the original shipping boxes, Nitroplanes RTF Brushless A-10's (Gray Scheme) for sale. I'm already flying four 55mm A-10s and have decided to purchase a larger A-10 from BH. If anyone is interested, send me a PM with your zip code to get a quote for shipping. I'm asking $145 for each, which is what I paid for them! Below is a picture of my Gray A-10 which I'm currently flying.

Here's a great deal! Banana Hobby is currently selling their 55mm Brushless RTF A-10 for $139! It was $159 I just ordered the PNP desert scheme version to add to my fleet. By far, the Banana Hobby offering is better! The new Nitroplanes brushless version is slower and noisier.

I took my old favorites out for some fun evening flying. The 55mm Banana Hobby Brushless A-10 has been painted in the Experimental "Flipper" Scheme which was applied to an A-10 during Desert Storm. Still a fun Hog to fly and the F-117 is always cool!

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Hello Jerry,
I feel I am suited to answer this question :-)
I fly electrics only and a DX6i radio for all 8 planes, big and small, with AR6100 & AR6200
receivers. Digital & analog servos. Not a problem ever, not even once with any of my planes.
The DX6i and DSM2 technology from Spektrum ROCKS !!! and everyone I know that has switched to
it has been completely satisfied. I should be a Spektrum Rep.... LOL. The only thing I might try next
is the more expensive DX7 when I get over 10 planes or maybe a JR DSM2 9 channel.
Hope this helps,
Mike
My A-10 update. I just replaced one of my Elemodel.com GWS 55/brushless motor units
because the motor must have vibrated loose in fan housing and caused the wires to short out.
I am happy to say I will be up and flying tomorrow again ! Yippeeee !

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Hey guys, new member here!
I should hopefully be receiving the NP's brushed A-10 RTF as an X-mas. I've surfed through a lot of this thread. Seems there aren't many fans of it. Anyways I was wondering why, based on BananaHobby's video;

Is Peter just that good of a pilot he can fly the brushed A-10 that well? Or chances he just got a really good one?

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Somehow I'm on NitroPlanes mailing list - I guess because I bought the plane from them
Anyway, now Nitroplanes advertises brushless planes down do below 90 dollars (J3 Piper Cub) and A-10 BL for below 140 dollars. I believe now is not smart to buy brushed version so this thread should bring quite different conclusion to the subject now: "Brushed version does not fly, and it is cheaper to buy brushless version than trying to upgrade brushed version to the flyable condition". It was fun and learning experience to make this thing flyable, but for someone who just want to fly a plane, it is not worth the money to go through the upgrade path like I did. (You see, I am not against the Nitroplanes at all, just against the lying thing )

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
I bought this plane in the black Friday sale recently and its junk 100% junk. the nickle battery at full charge wouldn't even lift the plane an inch off the ground. I did what the pros on theyre sight said and added a lipo 3 cell 1500 ma and on full charge will hardly fly at all....the brushed version of this plane is a waist of time and money. Also I emailed nitroplanes.com to complain and they sent me here which I know no one from there is going to help with my cause...

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Two questions
On the fans, are the rotors press fit, or are they removable? I removed the screw on the front of the fan, then pulled pretty good on the blade, not as hard as possible, I didn't want to rip the pod off.... Or do I need to just give it hell? I have a prop balancer and would like to throw the rotors on there. Getting a bit more vibration then I think I should...
Second, how much play does everyone have in the elevators and ailerons? Not from the cable, but I think mine might be a 'Monday build' plane. The right elevator can 'rock' when I push up/down. It's from the mounts into the foam. The left aileron is also a bit sloppy....

I do have lots of play too...doesn't seem to effect it much though. What really does is where you put the battery! If it's to the left or right you will have to trim each time.
the fans are a pain. Mine are out of balance but i just fly it...It is really loud and sound like it shoudl really go fast but is a really slow flyer actually. once its trimmed it is not too bad. I have aboiut 15 flights on mine now.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Hi all, wish i had researched better prior to buying the guanli a-10 "rtf" i got the brushed version, they are down to $69 now. I am curious if anyone has thought of using say, a mcdonald's straw for the gatling gun, allowing some airflow through the fuselage? I assume the airflow would make the battery stay cooler. I have ordered a 1300 mah 3 cell 25C lipo, being an old school electric r/c car guy, I intend to change the commutator timing in my brushed motors and remove a winding or 2 as an experiment. Of course I have also ordered 2 3600kv inrunners and 2 30a esc's. just want to try to not have "wasted" parts floating around. I was able to pull off a "Wright brothers" flight using about 200' of parking lot and got about 1 foot off the ground on the supplied 9.6v nimh and running the 370 motors as supplied by nitroplanes. Probably a moot point to try modding the stock brushed motors at this point, since there is a brushless version available now, but going to see what happens.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
this is interesting, great planes max flow df unit with brushed 370 ball bearing motor... claims 10.3A draw on 11.1 volts, 29,000 RPM and 8.5oz. thrust! link here http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXLXA3&P=7 also, their rotor adapter (on same page) is 3 part unit, 2mm, 2.3mm, and 3mm. think i may try this rotor. rated to 50,000 rpm max too.
As this thought just crossed my mind... anyone who thinks about running a brushed motor in anything... brushes usually are not "worn in" from the factory... you need to run most brushed motors for a good 20 to 30 minutes at reduced speed/ load to get those buggers to contact the commutator properly before running them for real (like in an underpowered take off)

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Does anyone know if the 1500mah 11.1v 15C battery inluded in the $139 nitroplanes A-10 kit is sufficient to run both motors without puffing the battery? I am not sure what type of BL motors are being used in this plane. I know they are 1200kv, but thats all I know. I wish they posted the manufacturer of their equipment.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
It is my understanding that the new brushless versions are running outrunner motors, I don't own one, but it is my understanding that you only need 1/2 throttle to keep them going after lift-off, so in theory you should be fine. I don't know if the new instructions in clude break in of the df unit, so just in case... run it up to about 1/3 throttle, listen for rotor hitting housing, if it does fluctuate from idle to 1/3 throttle several times, again at 1/2, 2/3, WOT. should be good from there. that would be a good time to check the lipo for heat.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
Well New Year's Eve was my maiden flight, both for R/C planes (outside of airhogs ) and the A-10. Shot of our truck loaded, my A-10 and my brother's two planes.
The A-10 is the stock RTF brushed kit. The battery was upgraded to a 11.1v 1250mah 10C lipo. Overall I was pleasantly surprised. I think most of the reviews here give a strongly negative impression. Yea, you'd be nuts to try flying it on the stock NiMH pack. Just from a bench test, it just sounded like the NiMH only got half the revs out of the fans the Lipo got. But at $69.99 RTF and say $20 for a Lipo from Hobbyking or elsewhere online, this plane is still a great deal.
However my plane is not without it's faults. Post-flight I can see a nice rub ring from the fans on the duct housing. Also in the vid you can see the plane fall out of the sky when the radio glitched big time. I think it may have been from the radio antenna being pointed directly at the airplane, but it was my first flight so I was rather nervous and don't exactly remember too much After my next flight I'll break the fans down and balance/see what's that far off. For the radio, probably upgrade to a DX6i here sooner or later.
Here in Mobile, the rainiest city in the conti-48, flying days are limited, either too windy most of the time or it's raining. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the 2nd flight in. Anyway's here's the vid, hope everyone enjoys!

STSDriver, were did you order your battery from, and part #, I have a brushed version to and don't want to go though the upgrade crap just yet. I figured if you got yours to fly, I should be able to get mine in the air to.....................B.

RE: Nitro Planes A-10 Warthog for 95 dollars
luvmykids2, your GAU8 (the whole plane really!) looks great, i was looking for a form follows function approach though, using the largest diameter straw i can find camos an air intake I will hide an outlet somewhere on the back of the plane too, hopefully to keep the electronics a bit cooler. I also suspect the light guage wire used in these things may create some resistance at these amperage levels. this is gonna be a fun little mod project methinks
