Here is the way I mounted my Ryobi . 3/16 alum. plate , 3/8 alum rod .Drill and tap ends of rod for 10/32 bolts. Use factory back plate screws to attach alum plate. To many flights to count....No problems yet.

Thanks. Stand off’s seem like a good method to adjust the engine thrust if necessary. Have you found a cowl that is anywhere close to fitting?

RE: What are you guys flying with the Ryobi 31cc.
greetings gentlemen,
I have a ryans rebel that I picked up at a fall fly in with a ryobi conversion on it . Mine is kind of heavy and flys like a big trainer or tiger stick. It[:-] will slow aileron roll and loop but must be at a safe altitude because it does sink rather quick.
I also have just completed a Stinger 120 with the ryobi coversion. It is a little lighter and I expect that it will perform better for that reason. I am anxious to fly it this weekend but expect cold weather. both of mine are equipped with the magneto and faced off flywheel. Tached 7000 with 14x8 master airscrew

Fellows
Sorry for the bad link on the previous post,
photos of the Stinger 120 with Ryobi 31cc and Corsair with Homelite 25cc are at http://macs-rc.com.
There is also a 5 min video of the stinger from takeoff to landing -- 24Mb
Will have video of the Corsair up tomorrow sometime

I am curious about the maximum weight of airplanes being flown with a 31 Ryobi? A hand me down airframe in process looks like it will finish out at 17 to 19 pounds. The weight appears to be at the upper end of the envelope.
This is a first Ryobi but it is a nice compact package. Are larger displacement Ryobi’s available?

My first attempt at buiding a plane (Kraut's Ultra SPAD Stik) turned out at 17.5#! The weight was my fault, part of learning process I put a big pink flying pig on vertical! My instructor says that it flys like a big trainer. Using a 16-8 as I ended up with gear that seems a bit low for me to try and learn with 18" props.
opened reed to 1/8", Walbro 167A , CH Ign, 2 ring piston, using an old style non-slotted head.

RE: What are you guys flying with the Ryobi 31cc.
I mounted a Ryobi 31 on a Great Planes Ryan STA-M.
This required extensive firewall modification and 8 ounces of lead at the extreme aft end of the fuselage.
Because of the greater weight, I substituted Robart oleos for the stock wimpy wire LG - Robart makes oleos specifically for this plane, though they cost as much as the ARF!!
Bottom line, SUPERB combination.
The Ryobi 31 seems to like an 18x8 propeller and is VERY fuel efficient.
Consistent starting requires an electric starter (car battery also required).
However, I have owned Ryobis that would hand start easily. Guess it depends on the engine.
FYI - I stripped all the monokote off the fuselage, fiberglassed it, and repainted in Rust O leum Aluminum, added some panel line and other surface detail.

I am not done yet and probably will not fly her this year, but she does have two Ryobi's in her. They spin a 16 x 8 graupner at 7000 rpms and they only have about ten minutes of running on them.[img][/img]

Really nice plane Peter! [sm=thumbup.gif]
Sorry to be predictable guys but I'm in the process of building a Ryans Rebel (I got around to it at long, long last Ryan ) and I have the 76" Lazy Ace Plans on their way from RCM. I quite fancy a Fokker DVIII eventually, for a scale bird, as I think any of the 1/4 scale versions would go well with a Ryobi... if it'll fit in there.
Regards from England,
Steve

How about some kind of PROFILE AIRPLANE....about 70- 80 inch wigspan. It should not be to hard to scratch build one from foam and wood. I bet it has been done already. capt,n

RE: What are you guys flying with the Ryobi 31cc.
I actually posted a message on the spad forum about making a really large spad 3D using a profile fuselage. I was hoping it would hover. No one had said they heard of it being done before. Oh well I don't think I will have the time.
