What are you guys flying with the Ryobi 31cc.
I've posted this question in the Giant section but did not get a good response. My question is what planes make for a good combo with the Ryobi 31cc? I just want to get an idea as to what you guys are flying with this engine.

Hi! I am flying a Ryan's Rebel with a 31cc Ryobi, 18 x 6W APC prop and CH ignition, getting 8300 rpm's and can do just about everything you can think about (I am not good at Hovering but I am practicing) I fly at sea level; I use 87 octane fuel and mobil's MX2T oil at a 50:1 ratio, and having a ball with it, Here's a picture ob it when it had regular ignition.

I am also flying a Ryan's Rebel with the Ryobi 31cc engine. I have used the magneto ignition and also electronic ignition. It runs good with both. I also fly a Chuck Cunningham Lazy Ace bipe with a Ryobi 31cc. Kits are no longer available, but RCM has plans as they also have the plans for the Rebel. Both fly very well for me with the Ryobi.

I'll be different again. 120 size warbirds are a great combo with this engine.
CM Pro Zero, CM Pro Spitfire, ESM Hurricane and I also have a CM Pro katana with a Ryobi.
Warbirds are all on magnetos and the Katana has a DA electronic ignition. Warbird engines
turn 16 * 10 3 blade MA's at 7600 rpm and the Katana turns an 18 * 8 bambula at 8000.
All great to fly. The Spitty and the Hurricane aren't mine but I put them together for friends.
Enjoy

I'm flying a Ultra Spad Stick that weighs in at 15 lbs. It flys like a great big trainer, fun if you enjoy easy, lazy flying. Soon I'll be mounting a Zenoah 41.5 from a Redmax blower. This should add some zip to the action. See Pic's below

Capt'n,
Yep, remove the flywheel and anything else not needed. Make a hub with the pickup magnet and a ring to hold the pickup sensor and your away. The hub might look heavy in the pics but is has six 8mm holes drilled in a hex shape in the pickup side. Sorry pics don't include the ignition box. Can take one of that if you like. As you may know, DA ignitions are made Down Under and I happen to be a friend of the guy that makes them. Very SWEET. He is a great guy. Will help out in any way.
Have now converted Jonsered 40cc chainsaw engine with DA ignition and that going into the Katana. Should give it a boost. First two pics are of the Ryobi second two are the Jonsered for those not in the know.

Schpankme, Those are very lite motors. I like to weigh mine as "ready to fly".
For instance my Homie 30 is 56.4 Oz. and that includes engine, muffler, ignition system, battery, switch, linkages prop nut and washer and whatever it takes to mount it. Everything except prop and spinner.

Hi, I use RYOBI 31 cc in my Junkers-13 made of coroplast. Span is 2.66 m, weight about 10.5 kilos, prop installed after some tests - 20/9. Like this engine very much, gonna buy another one for my next project.
Nice landings!

RE: What are you guys flying with the Ryobi 31cc.
I'm flying a Robinhood 80 ,15 1/2 lbs.,Zinger 16X6-10,and a Big Bingo 84",18 1/2 lbs.,Zinger 18X6-10.
Both planes have self converted RYOBI 31's with Bennet mufflers .
Happy with conversions and am trying to decide what to build for a third engine .

RE: What are you guys flying with the Ryobi 31cc.
I've been conversing with Ty Brown about the Meister sport scale P-51 at rcsb. He thinks a ryobi would be ideal for it. I had my doubts, but hearing how some of yours are flying at 18 lbs, I think he may be right. The web site states 90" ws with a 1400 sq in area. Cant say I agree with their values on wing loading though. At 19 lbs I calculate about 32 oz/sqft wing loading. Which is still acceptable for a knock around sport flying warbird. This is starting to look like my next warbird project after the TF giant P-47. I want a low pucker power warbird to fly around.

RE: What are you guys flying with the Ryobi 31cc.
I am offering the Ryan's Rebel as a complete with engine ARF, ARF plane alone or ARC version, you can see it posted on the market place just go to airplanes > ARF and search for Item 67417, the price for an ARF complete with converted and mounted Ryobi 31 CC is $300.00 plus Shipping and Handling;
ARF plane alone $200.00 and ARC version $165.00 (plus shipping and handling avg. is about $45.00). These planes are custom covered in your choice of colors and personal scheme or you can choose from the ones I have already done, here are some pic's for you to see.
The plane's specs are the following:
Wing span 80 inches
Wing area 1200 sq inches
Weight ready to fly aprox 12-13 lbs
Wing loading about 25 oz/sqft
length about 63 inches
The fuselage is made out of lite ply, wings are two piece balsa sheeted foam core joined by an aluminum tube and the tail feathers are made out of balsa wood.

aero nut
The engine appears to be a cleverly mounted on stand off’s. Do you have any bigger pictures of the mounting?
In addition has anyone used the muffler holes and upper cylinder pad to mount the engine? I have a maybe foolish desire to retain the air box and filter for initial testing.
Thanks.
