Default Want to try diesels...

Hey guys--I know nothing about diesels but have noticed the Bob Davis ad in AMA magazine. I would like to try it on an OS LA-.15. Is this a good match? I don't have many other two stokers, except a couple a Norvel .25's used in combat planes and a ST. 45 on a fun fly.

Is Bob Davis the best place to get heads and fuel?

Where can I find info about starting, etc.

I have added the diesel forum to my list and will be reading up on them.

Thanks.

Good way start the LAs are not a lot of $$ not a bb engine nor the
quickest in the flock but make great reliable conversions I know
Bob Davis "screens the engines sort of speak" to make sure they deliver
before he makes a head for it example LA40 check and see if he makes one for the 15, from what I have heard they are better as diesels than glow and I am discounting the power increase they make nice diesels
martin
Forgot the davis site has full info on this how too, starting. adjustment
of compression needle setting fuel etc, One more thing as a first engine
good choice a lot of us on this site have the whole range in sizes and
classic diesels such as the PAWs and others but go for the OS LA as a
first

My la 15 will swing a 8-6 to a 10-6 prop. Fuel saving's is great also- you will love this engine when you get it tuned properly!!!

As long as we are talking about .15 size diesels you MUST consider the FOX .15 Davis Diesel conversion. The FOX .15 is above average in power, ball bearing and twin needle carb. A friend has a LA .15 that will max out @ 14,500RPM on a black MAS 8x4 prop. My FOX .15 (as glow before Diesel conversion) would turn a black MAS 8x4 prop @ 16,000 fully lean and 15,500 at a safe running mixture. As Diesel it turns a black MAS 9x4 @ 13,000. This is a GREAT little engine. Yes it is heavier than a LA .15. Yes it requires a careful break-in procedure. Got to --> http://www.davisdieseldevelopment.co...y/gallery6.htm for a way to save a lot of trouble with diesel fuel.

Greg,

One trick I do on needle valve adjustments when starting an engine for the first time is to put a piece of fuel line the engine, close the needle down and then start opening the needle while blowing air into the fuel line. Once the arir starts to get through just open the needle another half turn and you should be in the ball-park for your needle setting.

This also works on glo engines.

I usually back off the compression all the way and then start tightening it down until it starts to pop. Tiny engines can easily break if you overcompress.
