Default Quadra prop hub runout

I just picked up a used Quadra 200 and am going over it before I start it for the first time. The runoutat the rim of the hub measured out to be .007 mmor .0025" if my conversion is correct. This seems reasonable to me, but I'm a carpenter. There are a few scratches in the cylinder walls but nothing that seems excessive.Do any of you have a pre-start checklist for used engines you would like to share?

I think .007 mm is only 0.00028 inches (about one tenth of what you calculated. Or more likely the runout is 0.07 mm. 0.007 mm is pretty hard to measure. So go back and check your measurement and then re-do the math (take mm and divide by 25.4 to get inches). On my gas engines (100cc and 170 cc) I usually have one or two thousands of run-out. So you are probably fine either way.

DMcQuinn

Thanks for spotting my error the run-out on my metric mic. was .007 cm not mm. So .07mm / 25.4 = .00275". Probably OK.

I have crashed my Pipercub with 116cc engine about 5 times, with resulting broken carbon props. The shaft has a runout of about 0.007mm. (like new!). The prop drive axial runout had increased though to 0.15mm, and needed a true-up job. It now is 0.05mm. Ready to rumble again.
Ralf C trues up the drive while on the engine, so he should get Zero runout if he gets the shaft exactly perpendicular. Here is where academic discussions could start.
If the prop tip has a runout of more than 1.0mm, try indexing the prop. Because the prop is often at fault, but may be used to correct small errors in your engine.

Thank you everyone. If all goes well I'll run it in the morning and report back.
