If it has that much slack there is something seriously wrong.
Why don't you send it back to goldwing?
If it's that bad surely they will swap it over

So what's the consensus on these PTE 36 Engines ?
i bought one from IBCingyou Rc- that was appx. 2 years ago...I also had his buddy make me a custom muffler for one of my planes. I Had a few issues with the EI and later a gasket (part #11- See pic). I sent it back to Mike and he provided the best customer service i've ever received for an RC product. Did I say the best ever, because it was the in fact the most exemplary "bend over backwards to help", customer service ever!
That being said, the engine is light and strong, and I'm happy with mine.
So here 's the point of my question, I've seen a number of them for sale and I hear it is hit and miss with these engines. What does everyone thing about the overall rating of the engine? My problems could have been a fluke.
I've consider buying another used one from someone on RCU, but with no warranty-that might make me nervous...I'd hate to spend ~$50.00 hr to get a used engine serviced. I'd like to get a real assessment of the overall impressions here of V-1 engines.

Exactly what I did, They sent me another engine that was much tighter all around. But had to re-finish the reed cage on it,re-fitted the reedsand ran it. Nice engine with good power for sport flying. Reliable throttle response with good transition.Fairly easy hand starting.Represents good value for the money.

I'd expect version 2 to be better than the V1 I played with.....

Hey Matt, 5mm movement, it sounds like somehow they left the needle bearing out of yours, at least they gave you a new one.
I would have liked to have seen what happened if you ran it 
I think all companies have QC issues, especially when they start up.

5mm is about 200 mils. 5mils is about 0.12 mm. English system of measure versus metric....

Over here we use the metric system, if a measurement is made say for a door frame we'll say "800 mil wide" a lot qicker that saying 800 millimetre.
I forgot you blokes still use that outdated system, it's confusing compared to metric.

When you are used to a single system, it's an easy mistake to make.

I am comfortable with either and use both, often simultaneously. Conversion betwen the two has long been committed to memory. Sometimes folks can't follow

Does anyone know how to remove the PTE-36 Prop Hub Assembly from the crankshaft?
There are two parts to it. One is the smooth shaft that the prop fits over and is screwed
onto the crankshaft and sits in front of the Hub Assembly. The problem is you cannot get
a socket onto it because it is almost totally buried into the Prop Hub Assembly in front.

What's the trick in getting this unscrewed and both parts off the engine?

You will need to buy a thin-wall, deep socket.
The spark plug wrench that is provided with the engine will also fit in the recess of the prop hub but I have never tried to use it to remove the prop shaft.
