Default Question on Zenoah G38 Muffler

The standard muffler has this unique louvred exit for the hot gases.
Is everyone replacing it when installing on a plane or, provided there’s a gap between it and the firewall, can it be used as-is with the gases exiting into the cowl and then out with the rest of the airflow through the cowl?

No this type of original muffler can not be used in any cowling.

I have never seen anyone use this muffler in an airplane.

If an open cowl had a deflector of some sort maybe, to protect and channel the hot gasses away from the firewall.

Just buy one of the many after market mufflers available and be sure all gasses exit outside the cowl.

Can someone please tell me the exact spacing between the muffler bolts?
Thanks!
