If that's a Brison, it was a conversion that was done for someone.

The cylinder is a Makita/Dolmar as used on a Brison, but the similarities end there. The carb block is the wrong color. the case in the front is recessed and not smoothh cast as would be with a Brison. the prop shaft appears to be wrong, and Brison is not known for installing a pressure tap in the case. The serial number in the back of the case seems to be awful high as well.

Get rid of the muffler no matter what it is. It will really set you back performance wise when you run it.

What do you think, Ralph? Possibly an A&M?

Any muffler recommendations? RCIGN1 says this is a A&M/Sachs... Will check the crank as you said. Thanks. Got it for aprox. 200 USD supposedly with low time on it. If not a good engine I have the option and return it to the owner. Will try and start it after checking the crank to see if it is a Sachs. Is it any good, it was going on a Lanier 1/3 Extra 300... Will this be right, should I return it?
Thanks,
Homero

If it's an A&M I would keep it. You can get a muffler for the 5.8 from Bisson, JA Engineering, and others. I would go ahead and order a muffler using "Brison 5.8" for an engine description to make things easier in ordering.

BTW, Makita/Dolmar bought out the Sachs cylinder line, and I have no doubt that yours is a Sachs based design.
