i read it here somewhere that the vent line going out the bottom should first go around the tank,
or loop it or otself, or something like that.
does it really have to to this? if so -why?!?
can't it just go front and down to the bottom of the fuse/cowl?
thanks

I never use a vent line from the bottom. How can you fill the tank with the vent line in that position?
My vent lines end in the top, then are bent down alongside the tank, and exit at the fuse bottom. That way, with the plane upside down, no fuel can flow from it.

Nope, I run my gas engine vent lines straight from the tank to the bottom of the fuselage and to the outside. I haven't noticed any leakage. BTW, I fill the tank through the supply line, not the vent line.

Well I've been flying gassers for 4 or 5 years now and I always phoo-phoo the idea of making a loop in the vent line to prevent gas from siphoning out of the tank. Been flying my 28% WH Edge and Extra now for almost a year and I've alway had a good bit of oil on the bottom of the plane after 5 or 6 flights. Thought this was normal with the 32:1 Mobil oil. Well just for the heck of it I made two loops in my vent line(because that's how long the line was and didn't want to cut it)
. After 5 flights, the bottom of the plane was DRY! I also fly pretty much the same routines each flight, and set my timer every time for a 15 minute flight. Well it took right at on ounce less of fuel each flight with the new vent line. That's how much was getting sucked out of the plane.....I'm convinced.
